Description
I'm not overly proud of many things I do but of this...it came out exactly as I envisioned it!This mosaic map used to grace the top chamber in the Pharos of Alexandria, a copy existed, on a larger scale, in the antechamber to Alexander's throne room.
It shows the Eleven Satrapies of The Empyraeum and the extent of the Flèva Dromòs, the Great Empyraen Road that kept the distant parts of The Empyraeum connected. Nothing could stop the pioneers and engineers of The Road; not mountain, nor desert, not swamp, nor river wide. Throw any obstacle in their way and the human and Dwarven crew would overcome it.
Tunnel through rich, bridge the river, drain the swamp, pave the desert...
At one time, the Flèva Dromòs was filled daily with walking pilgrims, the carts and wagons of merchants, the flow to and from Alexandria was unending.
These travellers needed food and a safe place to sleep and, at the major junctions, the Shambol-Tàverna supplied not only that but protection. These Shambol were run by a guild made up exclusively of veterans of Alexander's former armies, retired now the war was over. These veterans ran the inns and, charging no fee, protected travelling pilgrims from bandits.
These fortess-inns soon became the source of the unofficial Territorial Army of The Empyraeum, trained as a fast reaction force to both disaster and invasion, they could mustee assistance wherever needed thanks to an innovative signalling system based on some of Archimedes' stranger designs.
