Description
Ember hadn’t said much to her ever since the incident, but that was just characteristic of him. Ember didn’t speak much, but his eyes showed all the emotion and pain when Tinsel woke up to them. The blue Wyngro had been sleeping on and off throughout several days, and finally she awoke only to be as silent as her friend. She barely smiled the day her bandages her removed, as she saw the pink scar running under her eye. “That eye was very scratched up, you’re lucky you didn’t lose it,” she’d been told. Maybe one of the tree’s branches had caught her on its way down.
The tree.
The memory stung her, but Tinsel couldn’t suppress it. She’d gone to check on the Secret Base before planning to meet Ember by the frozen river, since she was sure the recent storm had blown debris all over it. She was right in that assumption, but as she’d been tidying up the area, she saw the tree subtly tilting, old roots straining to keep ahold of the softened earth.Suddenly it began to creak and tilt further, and Tinsel had found herself hurling her body at the trunk, stray branches scraping at her face as she shoved her body under the tree to hold it. But the massive trunk was too heavy, and Tinsel was only standing for a couple of seconds before collapsing under its weight. Then the memories vanished.
Tinsel scowled. That tree was supposed to be sturdy, wasn’t it? Why did one random winter storm have to be its last straw? She had hoped it would stay standing long enough to maybe show her own children, let them take it over as she began to realize she was too big herself to enjoy it anymore.
Well, so much for that thought.
The tree that had provided almost all of her fun throughout her childhood was gone, gone forever. Even the Snow Guard had been blown apart in the storm. Snow was beginning to melt as spring approached, so there wasn’t even a point in trying to scrape together wet slush to replace him. Besides, he wouldn’t have anything to guard anymore.
It was just...gone. Tinsel shut her eyes, unable to really accept that it was all destroyed because of one storm. “Why couldn’t you have stood just a few more years…?” she whimpered to no one in particular.
Feeling exhausted and sore, she laid her head on her paws. Was Ember upset about the tree too? He was probably more worried about Tinsel, though he never really voiced it. She wanted to ask him how he felt about the Secret Base being destroyed, but decided she didn’t feel like it. She’d always gotten the feeling that Ember didn’t really appreciate the base like she did. Well, he was a shy kid, not very outdoorsy. It was probably logical he didn’t care for the base at all, and only tagged along because it was important to Tinsel.
Well, whether he disliked the base or not, it was gone forever now. No more decorating, no more hiding inside, no more need to even defend it from passersby. All of that time...for nothing.
Tinsel bit back a sob. This was just the worst possible thing that could happen. She barely cared about her missing tail and scarred face, she just wanted things to go back to the way they were.
But they probably wouldn’t, and the Wyngro felt hollow. Remembering these once happy memories were becoming almost painful when she now knew they were gone forever.
Tinsel decided she’d throw away all of the decorations tomorrow. No more flag, no more flowers...she didn’t want to have to remember the base if it was never coming back.

this really hit home ;;;
Tinsel actually reminds me of something i used to have in my own childhood. We used to have a tall Hibiscus tree in our yard, it was the best thing ever to me, seeing the leaves fall then comeback and the flowers bloom. Hummingbirds would go up the tree for the best flowers on the top and i'd sit by my window to watch them(it was seriously tall, 2 stories tall. And for a hibiscus tree to go this tall is very rare). Squirrels would run up and down the tree and there was a little space underneath for my cats to make a den for their kittens, it was adorable <33
but as with all good things, slowly the tree started to die. The leaves wouldn't grow back, the flowers stopped blooming and the trunk was turning a dull dark brown. It wasn't till later that we found out the tree was somehow "hollowed" and the wood had become soft. It was unhealthy and it was already too late to save it, so my mother decided that we had to cut it down. All that was left was a sad and depressing tree stump before we had that removed too. Now we have a smaller tree in a pot standing in it's place. The tree we have now is supposed to grow up to 3 stories, but it'll never replace the hibiscus tree i loved dearly 33
