Description
Okay, this'll be the last update for a while. I've uploaded these in the wrong order – I did this one before I did the Hajieelkhe piece and before Glimpse of Summer, yet I uploaded those before Spoiled for some reason. This was my entry for the CGchallenge of Master & Servant at CGtalk. I entered, not to win but to have fun – and to my great surprise, I -did- win. My BOXX computer is my best friend now. If you ever have the money to buy a wonderful new system – go BOXX. Unbeatable.Anyway, please click the bigger version. The small, ratty one doesn't do it justice. I've worked harder on this picture than any other I've ever created and I've never painted so many details into any one canvas
Prints of it available here,

and here (in the poster book along with others like Ladies of London and Game of Cards),

Pleaaase take a look at the details, I spent so much time on them

For those who haven't seen the M&S entry, here's the write up that goes along with it:
"At times, Nature is the master of Humanity... and at other times, Humanity certainly rules Nature.
Nature makes us hurry inside when she weeps rain upon the world. With hurricanes, she toys with us. Tornadoes are used to punish, earthquakes to throw us about like pebbles in a child's game. We live on her land, and through that, she rules over us. Our very bodies belong to her - they age in rhythm with her, and they are subject to urges and desires that she imposes on us. In some ways, we're little but slaves to Nature's ways.
But Humanity... on the other hand... has found another way to dominate. Humanity destroys what we touch. We reach out towards pretty things in greed, and leave a trail of death behind. We fence the woods in, we run over the animals and poison the seas. Ours is a different kind of mastery but it is one nevertheless. Nature serves us because she has no other choice. Humanity always expects Nature to mend what damage we've done: heal the woods burned down, return the animals hunted to extinction and cleanse the seas... never considering what will happen the day Nature is no longer there to catch us.
In this piece, I tried to show this relationship. Humanity a naïve yet destructive burden, the smile on her lips slight and dreamy as she thinks of the beautiful flowers she will pluck and the lovely birds she will see while all around her these very things now fade away. She's blind to the destruction she causes. She knows that Nature will be there for her, she knows that there will always be the scent of flowers and always the gentle surge of the sea. She is Nature's master in that Nature has no choice but to try to catch her and always try to mend the damage she has done... but she is Nature's slave because she must breathe the air, drink the water and eat the food that only Nature can give her."

I adore this piece and could understand its meaning even before I traced it back here to your deviant art page. What beautiful, meaningful work. This is very personal to me because of my immense love and respect for Nature. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

Maybe you'll never see this, but.. I had a conversation with someone today that made me think of this picture, and I realized something, looking back on this after almost 7 years. I'm not sure what your personal beliefs are, but, back then this used to be my wallpaper. My father saw it and immediately assumed it was "lesbian". I know that wasn't the point of the picture, and I tried to explain that.
Maybe it shouldn't have been done in anger and frustration, but for some reason, I spat it out. I came out to my father, right then and there. He was angry. But for me, after years of hating myself for the way I felt and what I was, I'd finally worked up the courage to be honest. That small sentence made it easier, later, to be open and honest with my friends and other family. It took a long time, but I was finally able to be myself.
This picture started that, even if that wasn't its intention. So thank you. Your art changed my life.

This is a masterpiece. We can clearly see the effort you have put on this one. I love the story behind, which is deep and true and probably not everybody think about the consequences of the destruction we, Humans, cause to our Nature.
Good job ! <3

Even after all this time, your women are still beautiful and moving in their powers, and all your writing is as well. She is Nature's master but more deeply Nature's slave. And the loss when Nature is no longer there... and the sudden realization of that despair!!

Good grief. Linda I am sorry you have to deal with individuals with too much time on their hands. You inspired me to begin painting years ago. Keep your head up and I still hope to one day purchase your art book with all of the charming stories and characters. You really are an inspiration to so many with ground breaking tutorials and rare talent. Its infuriating that people are trying to discredit your skill. If you ever get that book made, please give me a nudge. Take care,
Meagan

Can't complain about the art but.... it's the message I disagree with. Apparently all we can do is destroy. Get your suicide pills, people, humanity is the worst thing that ever happened in the universe and everything would be so much better if we were all DEAD.
This, I do not agree with.
I'm off topic, but wonderful art in any case, even though the stated message irks me quite a bit. I especially like the snakes in MN's hair, it reminds me of Medusa. ^_^

Same here. Great art. Twisted message.
I'm protective of unspoiled nature and I'm not a fan of GMOs, but as a human I'm *aware* as an individual. I share no collective burden. What I choose to do for others or not do for others is my individual choice. How I interact with my environment is up to my personal self-determination. And I know that it is the same for every other individual human being. "Humanity" is not a hive-mind and is not responsible as a whole for anything. Each of us are accountable as individuals.
And who is to say whether a wild-world, a world-garden, or a techno-world is best? What is the moral standard for it? No matter how much sentimental whimsy people feel about the notion, "Nature" isn't a real being or entity.
"Nature" destroys itself all the time. What to do about that? Should we point at a volcano and scream with a collective "voice of humanity" at the volcano to shame nature? How should we view termites? Locust? Mold? Beavers? Etc...
Existence is dreary for the hopeless and confusing/maddening for those without a moral compass.

God I love you for that entire post. Please marry me. I thought I was the only one that though humans are, in fact, pretty cool. And nature isn't the all-loving, gentle, perfect, pristine, serene 'mother' it's always shown to be. In fact, dear old mother nature has spent all of her time and energy trying to KILL humanity.
