Palais Garnier -- Opera National de Paris, FranceNikon D90 + Sigma 10-20 at 10mm.
Mini-panorama of 3 vertical frames + 1 horizontal frame of the ceiling made with -2ev exposure correction. B/w version is based on the red channel.

i actually appreciate the b&w version of this more than i do the color. here's why: there are people on stage in the background, whom were not noticeable to me in this shot. in the color version, i noticed them right away. the b&w also has a more peaceful and quiet (almost dead-like) appeal. it's beautiful.

Such a beautiful shot!! I love the black and white, it really makes all the detail pop. The angle is brilliant; it almost looks like a fish eye effect. I'm jealous that you got to stand in such a lovely opera house.

This is red channel + contrasting + "clarification" (I guess a kind of pseudo-HDR) + a separate shot of the ceiling with -3ev compensation manually stitched

Is there any adjustment to the greyscale to compensate for the colors to make the contrast this way? I've heard about it but never actually figured it out :/

I took the red channel, which is the most contrast. And on top I've raised the contrast further...
