Flowey and Papyrus made their way through waterfall, each of them silent. Papyrus stared pointedly at the path ahead of him, thinking about Flowey and how odd he felt around him. Flowey was so cheerful, and kind- and yet for some reason, something in Papyrus' soul was screaming at him to get away. He passed it off as skepticism, not wanting to make Flowey feel unappreciated. So far, he hadn't said anything too far out of left field. Sure, he'd ask an innocent question here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Only small things, like Papyrus' favorite color, or one of his hobbies. Yet even still, Papyrus felt very strange around that flower monster....
" So, Papyrus! You got anyone special in your life?"
Papyrus blinked, having been drifting off for the past few minutes. It took him a couple minutes to register Flowey's question, before he finally came up with an answer.
" WELL, THERE'S MY BROTHER, SANS.... BUT THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT. I'M NOT TOO CLOSE WITH ANYBODY ELSE...."
Flowey dipped underneath the ground, emerging once again a few feet ahead of Papyrus. He had an inquisitive smirk on his face " Oh, really? I would've thought a charismatic guy like you would be the talk of the town!"
" I KNOW, RIGHT? THAT'S WHAT I KEEP TELLING EVERYONE! SANS BELIEVES ME, BUT..... WHEN I BRING IT UP TO ANYONE ELSE, THEY DON'T SEEM TO LISTEN."
" Well, it's their loss. Some people just can't see the obvious." Flowey said. Papyrus couldn't help but smile just a bit. Why was he feeling so uneasy around this flower? Flowey had been great company so far, and had even complimented him a couple of times! He was probably just nervous, for whatever reason.
" DO YOU HAVE ANYONE IN YOUR LIFE, FLOWEY?"
The flower paused, causing Papyrus to stop walking as well. Flowey scratched the back of his petals with a vine.
" Well, I used to.... but that was a while ago. Now, I'm kinda on my own." He said. Surprisingly, there was no remorse or longing in his voice; he just sounded wistful, as though he was touching on memories from the past.
" OH.... I'M SORRY, THAT SOUNDS AWFUL...."
" Naaah...." Flowey insisted, grinning. " Like I said, it's been a long time. I've had time to get over them."
Papyrus thought that was a little odd, but shoved the thought aside. He knew that he wouldn't be this cheery if talking about Sans in the past tense, but maybe that was just him.
" So, how long till we get to Hotland?"
" NOT TOO LONG." Papyrus assured him. " ALTHOUGH- WHERE ARE YOU HEADING FOR SPECIFICALLY?"
" I'm not too sure myself." Flowey admitted, once again bobbing in and out of the dirt a few paces ahead of Papyrus. " I'm hoping to figure that out by the time we get there.
Papyrus nodded. " ALRIGHT, JUST TELL ME WHEN YOU FIGURE IT OUT."
" Will do!" Flowey said, saluting with a vine.
If only that heart-warming moment could've lasted a little longer.
