Description
Before the Dominion War, Starfleet found that the Galaxy class starship was one of it's marvels. However by 2371, 6 were already lost or destroyed. The Yamato, the Odyssey, the Enterprise-D were among them. The first refit of the class came in 2372 with the USS Venture, and it being one of the first to mount extra phaser banks on the nacelles.

This gave the ship even more firepower. In addition, the Galaxy Class had refits to the deflectors as well as the impulse engines... This improved mobility and durability in a fight.

During the Dominion War, the Galaxy class was one of the finest ships in the fleet. During Operation Return (the battle to retake DS9 from the Dominion), a large number of Galaxy class ships were involved and destroyed over 30 ships with no Galaxys lost.
