Axolotl (axolote o ajolote in Spanish) are a beautiful type of salamander native to Mexico. They can regrow entire limbs and retain their juvenile features for life (as they present neoteny). Sadly, like so many other species, is currently threatened. It's critically endangered. Tourism, growth of the city and contamination of their habitat are big issues for them where they live in Lake Xochimilco in Mexico City.
