Description
I am from forests,From creeks and rocks
I am from the rope swing in the back yard
(Adventurous, exhilarating
It felt like pure joy)
I am from the foundations of that old house
Who’s rotting wooden beams and chimney
Are the only thing that is left
I’m from trading lunches,
From old playgrounds and zip-lines
I’m from soccer
And track and field
From slow down and hurry up
I’m from do unto others
With a hand-print thanksgiving turkey
And John 3:16
I’m from the world around me
Wind, animals, fire, and all
From the trees cut down
To give me a house
The freedom sacrificed for a good life
In this old desk of mine is a box
Full to the brim with old thoughts
Each one losing itself to time
To drift through my dreams
I am from these memories-
Documenting my maturity-
As I grow to become what I should be.
