Description
Getting the hang of itBy the way, the display elements are transparent textures done in photoshop, so technically its just a lot of planes with transparent textures.
After finding how to do it, its remarkable easy to produce lots of elements (and don't be mistaken, these are high-res, each is 1024x1024 and is readable up-close)
They can also either cast dark "backdrop" shadows or colored shadows so they work well in a display console or screen model, for which you can then do a bright/noise/scanline kind of background...

These are great. Where do you get your inspirations from to create the various elements? I mean I know a keyboard is a keyboard, but the other details, those are so cool!

Are you gonna try 3D interfaces too? a la Final Fantasy?

Actually i am... i want to do a holographic effect of a model as part of a interface element so that it appears as if the interface is scattered around a 3d-space.
But this sounds to me like a huge project, given how many texture elements a 3d-volume projection needs. Or maybe i won't use textures at all.. mhh
Ah well, i am in my experimental phase right now.. so we'll see.

hehe, yes. do displays..because you remember the trouble i had with mine??? having real lights emitting the crap -.- what a nightmare that was! meh at least its finished
but i must say making the holographic textures was the fun part
yours look very nice also

Yeah that was a bummer. I wonder why i never thought of doing it like this before, hah.
But yeah, that display hung in my mind for a while, and even these "simple" effects aren't really that easy to do. The element creation in photoshop is great fun but fine tuning the shader.. not so much. And one can absolutely not, ever, use glow in 3d for these. Not even highlight or anything else. The glow doesn't spread equally so you get a flocky ocean of highlights, not a general glow.

I bet the text says:
all your base belong to us
when I saw your first picture I already thought its an alpha-texture. its quite simple imho but still impressing
now go and do a Mech-HUD!

Yeah i wonder why i never did that before.. But a mech hud.. mhh, not going to happen ,p
First step is to model displays around the textures, and i am still in my texture creation phase so yeah.. probably going to do some space ship interior for a change
