Description
This is what it looks like when I'm too lazy to shade.Servbot (Mega Man Legends) vs Ape (Ape Escape).
This crossover needs to happen! They have a bunch of similarities.
-small, cute
-come in large numbers (though there are way more apes than Servbots)
-both groups look similar (that is, Servbots mostly look the same as other Servbots, and apes mostly look the same as other apes)
-each one has unique skills, personalities, and quirks mentioned in in-game lists
-can cause trouble and mischief
-first appeared in PS1 games
-kind of like mascots to their series
I had been looking through a Naruto art book and the wild poses kinda reminded me of the action stuff I used to do before I started getting too hindered by my worry of making mistakes and stuff. I've been trying to loosen up again (though not necessarily to the level I used to be). I've been wanting to draw these two for quite a while anyway, so I thought I would try to loosen up on them. Their simplistic bodies would help me focus more on things like motion/flow, perspective, and posing rather than anatomy.
There's definitely stuff I wish came out a little better but the drawing itself was fun and went smoothly enough, so I'm satisfied.
Since this was mostly about the drawing experience than the colouring experience, I left the colouring basic. I tried shading it, but my effort really wasn't in it. I ended up adjusting the base colours a bit to make it lighter and just make the whole thing look soft and sort of child-like. I felt it fit the tone of the drawing, while letting me get away with not shading it.
I briefly even considered just as line art to save time and do other things instead, but I felt I needed to colour it a bit.
That thing the ape has is supposed to be a Mega Buster; he's aiming it backwards/overhead. Since it's barely showing, I figured some colour would make it a little more clear. So they both have weapons/gadgets normally used by the protagonists of the other's series.
I tried putting Mega Buster shots being fired at the Servbot in but since I didn't draw it in ink like the rest of the lines, them being fully digital looked too comparatively artificial and it clashed too much.
Just a note: I'm confused on what to call the apes. In North America, it's Ape Escape. In Japan, it's Saru! Get You!/Saru Getchu. Saru means monkey. But apes and monkeys are not the same thing. So are they apes or monkeys??

It's cool to look at it! Again, I am not really familiar with any of the figures, but it looks good and I like the explanation on the colouring, I agree, it fits. Hmmm, about your question, from the German word, Apes could be directly translated to human-monkeys, maybe that helps?

Thanks.
That doesn't help at all! It makes it sound like another language is using ape and monkey interchangeably!
