Description
GREEN ARROWGreen Arrow is one of the few features to survive past the Golden Age straight into modern times, albeit as a back-up feature, premiering in MORE FUN COMICS, moving to ADVENTURE COMICS for a long run, and then WORLD'S FINEST COMICS. During most of this time, Green Arrow and sidekick Speedy were sort of the poor man's Batman and Robin--a clean-shaven rich man with a teenage ward fighting crime with specialized gimmicks, including the Arrowcar and the Arrowplane. At the very end of the 60's, artist Neal Adams gave him a fantastic new, more functional design and a stylish goatee, making him more like the Robin Hood he was clearly inspired by. Writers soon had GA lose his fortune and sidekick Speedy but gain the love of the beautiful Black Canary (created in a separate feature in 1947). He was also partnered with Green Lantern for a couple of years in a series of socially relevant (and sci fi) stories that caused waves and made national news. Together or separately, GA and BC continued as back-up features and finally as stars in their own series (her being the popular BIRDS OF PREY team book). He received his own TV show ARROW on the CW, starting what's known as the "Arrowverse" family of interrelated shows. Even after more than 80 years of stories, he had very few distinguished villains (I've drawn the few that stood out to me), so the show borrowed bad guys heavily from the TEEN TITANS and BATMAN comics.
