Description I don’t have this guy as developed as I would like. So far I know what his personality is when compared with Astrid. He’s the more serious and straight-laced of the pair, he really didn’t want to be a mercenary especially working with someone he considers rather silly, but some bad circumstances left him short on options. He’s been in the army and he’s been a ranger sort of character since then until his mercenary stint. He has magic of the earth and wood varieties, which worked out pretty well for the ranger gig and serve as a contrast to Astrid’s wind magic given super speed. Earth magic grants him far above usual strength and wood magic lets him telepathically control certain wooden objects, especially those he carved himself so he’s able to use a bow of immense power.
I have some issues with making designs for this setting and I‘m really not sure that scaly armor is going to stay. A feature of the world is that it’s actually quite resource poor, there is not nearly the metal or fossil fuels that the real earth has. There’s a plot related reason for it, but I’m not sure I want to give that away up front. It has the effect that most people improvise other ways of doing things, buckles of metal are somewhat rare, most people with metal weapons have already proven they have noteworthy proficiency and a full set of armor in metal is just an outlandish display of wealth. There are a number of formidable creatures running around the setting though, so I thought I might take some design tips from the Monster Hunter games when people use the rough hides and scales of creatures to make armor and weapons. The idea behind his arm and leg armors are that they’re some creature’s hard scales somehow affixed to leather sleeves which slide over the limbs or boots and then are strung tighter. They’re more for protection from harsh terrain than combat, but they are solid enough that they can be used in combat situations, but it requires substantial maintenance and are not considered to be high end armor.

One thing I find sort of odd is that compared to the first time I drew them, Astrid lost details but Byron here gained some.
