To begin with I had to do some reasearch on the mythology of the Kitsune and found a whole host of other creatures that are similar to the kitsune. Along with my study I also tried to understand just what exactly is the fox fire they use. In truth I still do not understand it, so hopefully the illustration herein is at least a close enough depiction. So to the point of perspective or really the lack thereof  due to a couple of factors ranging from bad habits of mine to not fully using my rulers and not creating a perspective point then perspective lines was simply at the beginning I had no idea what the pose should be in the first place. I must have drawn like three different poses before settling with this. So through a combination of (mostly eyeballing it) and compensating with ruler usage to at try to get some lines flush with others and steadily conjoining everything via freehand and voilà you get what is on display.

In addition what gave me the most trouble at first was deciding what the background should be. I originally intended for the confrontation to take place in a graveyard with other undead entities closing the distance. Methinks that there is supposed to be something about kitsunes sometimes wandering around graveyards but I do not remember given that other fox spirit creatures (depending on your mythology) roam around the graveyard looking for hearts or liver to eat ex: the gumiho I think might be the one I'm thinking of but I don't remember. So how did I ultimately settle on the background, well I'm a really, really big fan of the drawings of Giovanni Battista Piranesi. More specifically his "Imaginary Prisons" drawings and also his prints of ancient Roman ruins.

Also adding to the eccentric architectural choices, I like M.C. Eschers drawings too and the feeling that the nonsensical layout that looks like it leads to nowhere or on an infinite loop. With that stated I also feel that I must mention on how much I utterly despise architectural symmetry (even if I can appreciate the beauty that is manifest in classical architecture and other buildings that have a symmetrical layouts and designs) I for one get very bored and loose interest when everything looks and feels samey. For that matter too I really can't help to have some influence from the level Down in the Bonehoard from Thief The Dark Project. Not at all a surprise from me since that level is a constant source of inspiration and I really like the idea of an underground necropolis built on top of other ruins and so forth.

Now for a bit of context on whats going on. I for one would not know if this would fall under as a "crossover" so I'll leave it up to the viewer's discretion. So Sakura is engaging with a couple of Thyodocians, more accurately their reanimated husks. The Thyodocians themselves were a bronze age civilization that were blessed then eventually cursed. It is widely believed that they held numinous artifacts that contributed to their prosperity and possibly aiding in ushering their eventual demise. Some notable artifact that is believed to have been in their possession was the Builder's chalice, the artifact itself (as the name would imply) allowed people to build architectural wonders far beyond their natural technological capabilities and is sought after by those who crave the prowess offered by the artifact for what ever their own desires are. The influence of the chalice can be both by proximity of consumption of liquids thus bestowing it's wisdom to the architect or builders of said construction. With that said, it does not give the materials needed to build the desired structure, so people are placed in a position where they still have to obtain the materials needed, either by harvesting the resources, trading, of by force.

Eventually the reasons for the collapse of the Thyodocian civilization is lost and forgotten just as their ruins lay forgotten and what remains stalking in their desolate halls mercilessly keep what ever secrets within. Unfortunately for our kitsune friend, only the most daring or foolhardy willingly venture into left to confront not only the Thyodocians and other malevolent entities but other failed and deeply misfortune adventurers whose remains now being in possession by the place itself, are trapped and reanimated joining the ranks of the Thyodocians and other unfortunate victims. Thyodocians unfortunately come back after sometime, and the only real good way to destroy one is to deliver enough damage to the Thyodocian's "crystallized heart", or at the very least something like holy water, blessed water, or sanctified water (all of which are extremely potent to most undead). I suppose things could be worse for Sakura, at least shes not encountering and fighting Trymurdens. I'm confident that Sakura will succeed where many others have failed.
