This piece was inspired by a piece by ~genni entitiled Hold Yourself Together

Thank you to *lured2stock for the Polaroid Photos

This is a piece for my sister, for her 21st Brithday.
All the objects in the piece reflect her and her life; The ballet slippers show her love of dancing; the paper has biological language on it (chemical symbol for glucose) as she also loves biology, and is currently studying it at uni; the necklace and earrings show her love of jewelery; the filled glass is meant to be Southern Comfort and coke, her favourite drink, although its hard to tell cux its in black and white... this also represents her love of partying/going out; the drawing hand represents her love of drawing and art; the tulip respresents the 4 years she lived in Holland before moving back to Australia to go to uni (Tulips are the Dutch national flower).

I'm fairly happy with the outcome of this piece. I like the concept- basically her whole life put onto paper.

Hope you all like!

Thanks to your inspiration to do surrealist stuff!

I need to work on my imagination though, its nothing compared to your Paul!

Thanks anyway!

you mean little old paul inspired you to do surrealism LOL.....

thanks,

well imagination is something youre born with, but to be imaginative your mind needs to be fully on what youre doing. e.g i go through spots of not haveing any ideas thats when im really busy, but i have lots of daydreams and hallucinations before i go to sleep when my mind is thinking of surrealism and painting fully, last night i hallucinated a room with a sort of little hot air ballon, in the basket was a bottle of wine........

So what would you interpret that as?

I get ideas as well, but the thing is i've always been told from a very young age to draw what i see and not what i think i see, which is why i dont usually draw from imagination cuz i cant imagine things in great detail cuz its not in front of me ready to draw, so it wouldnt turn out as realistic as i'd want it to be, so i'd just end up disappointed.

I've tried compiling a series of reference pics into a surrealist piece (Snap Shot Reflections for example) which works, but the reference pics arent exactly what i'm looking for, so it doesnt turn out exactly like i see it in my head.

i dont know, maybe wanting to get out of the house? or wanting to explore things? go on a journey of art, of my mind.... this one you could come up with anything really...... i might make it into something and put symbols in etc........

Yea i know what you mean, it can be hard to make really sophisticated objects out of your head, but most you can manage by looking at things simular,

also an an artist my eyes look at evrything i see in an artistic vision, as in how would i paint that shine or that texture etc and also drawing from life helps you create out of your head.........

omg! you do that too? i look at everything and look at the light reflections and the shadows and think about how i would paint it etc... weird! i thought i was just art obsessed! well i am, but i didnt think anyone else was like me.

Yea, i've started drawing from life a bit more which is good...

I'm really getting into this watercolour thing though, i just started some watercolour tulips tonight... lol... so much for the oil fans lol

weird how we do that isnt it? I wonder if anyone else does?

A mug, for example (sitting here in front of me)... normal people would just look at it and accept it as being a mug... i'm sitting here, not accepting it as just a mug, but looking at the little light reflections on the rim, and the shadows getting darker inside the mug towards the bottom, and the perspective of it from where i'm sitting... haha nothing can be simple when it comes to us

monet? noooo... impressionist? somehow turned surrealist? weirdo! lol

Paul88 In reply to eskimo30787 [2005-10-23 18:52:46 +0000 UTC]

whats wrong with monet?

impressionism is like surrealism, full of enigmatic things and feeling, when i saw monets work for the first time when i was really small it gave me the same dreamy weird impossible to describe feelings dali's work did........

thats weird...

I've never liked impressionism... my art teachers want me to experiment with impressionism in my upcoming portraits project... hmm... not looking forward to that...

oh, impressionism isnt like the splashes of modern art, you still need to be a good drawer/draftsman to get good forms.... i love monets water..

[link] thats a good one, i mean how surreal is that, like two stages in time.....
