Description
Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all are doing well. Been keeping busy myself over the holidays. Ready to see what 2024 brings for my artwork. Starting off the year with our first new post. Decided to revisit a piece from the beginning of last year. While I normally stick with the 18th and 19th centuries for my subject matter, occasionally I like to branch out and look at different eras. Here we have a Greek Hoplite of the Classical Era. Obviously Hoplites did not go into battle naked, but often times in Ancient Greek art, we see them depicted as naked. This is called "heroic nudity." Basically, Ancient Greeks were obsessed with the male form, and so any time they depicted heroic male figures in artwork, they were naked, showcasing the Ancient Greek ideal body type. Figured I would use that as an excuse to practice a little bit of anatomy. Tastefully, mind you.😁Also wanted to use the opportunity to try out some new shading techniques. Overall I think it turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Thank you all! Stay well and stay happy!
