Haven't had a chance to watched the pre-2000 series, but I would definitely say that from what I know of them, Amazon scores a lot of points.
The style you rendered him in here is just so fitting, it's crazy. The two-dimensionalization (if that's a word) and reduction of the character's shapes into sharp blades emphasize the point that.. you don't want to get too near this guy.
