                                                                                     The Science of Chocolate and Flareon

Alright, I gotta start on the essay I procrastinated on.

Flareon goes absolutely crazy when he eats chocolate, and there's a very simple explanation. It could just be a sugar high.

There, done...if I was a minimalistic person! Nope!!!! Okay gotttaa con...zzzzzzz.....huh? Oh, gotta contttinueee wiith scccienceeee.

If the explanation above doesn't satisfy you...you want science, right? Okay, let's start researching! Chocolate contains cacao, which has a chemical called theobromine, which is what makes chocolate lethal to cats because they can't digest it and eliminate it like humans. (Solarflare isn't a cat in all respect, he's a flareon, but I assume he has a similar anatomy.) Theobromine affects the nervous system and cardiac system of cats, and it's also a stimulant.

When the cardiac system is affected, it can lead to an increase/decrease in blood pressure and abnormal heart rate. The type 3 berserk virus flare is infected with lives in unison with flare unless something happens (more info in special chapter 2.1). The berserk virus drains the blood of its host, so the increased/decreased blood pressure and abnormal heart rate can change the amount of blood the virus is getting. An increase can make the virus more powerful, causing the virus to take over and cause flareon to go berserk. A decrease can make the virus want more blood, hence turning flareon into a blood-thirsty monster. Since theobromine is a stimulant, it explains why flareon has the sudden burst of energy when he eats chocolate that makes him go berserk. Theobromine can also cause weakness, lethargy, and comas in cats, which would explain why after flareon has his berserk-mode activated, he collapses after a few minutes. After he wakes up from his coma, the effects of the theobromine are gone and his blood pressure has returned to normal, which is why flareon returns to normal after the coma. High blood pressure can also dilate the eyes' pupils, which can be seen happening to flareon in special chapter 2.1. In special chapter 2.1, flareon also says "everything I saw turned red". High blood pressure can damage blood vessels in the eye and cause blindness, which might be why flareon sees all red. It may also explain his red eyes in special chapter 2.1. The nervous system has a short explanation because I couldn't conclude much. When the nervous system is affected, it may disturb the berserk virus because the berserk virus tries to control the nervous system of its host.

These above symptoms also explain why flareon goes berserk when he gets angry. Anger is an emotion, which means the nervous system helps carry it out. It is an especially strong emotion, which may be why it's the only emotion that causes flareon to go berserk from a change in the nervous system. Anger can also cause increased heart rate and blood pressure, many people can relate to that.  I already explained how this increase can affect the berserk virus in the previous paragraph.

So there you have it, this is why chocolate makes flareon go berserk. Now all I have to do is submit this to my college ethology professor...wait why is this on DeviantArt and not the homework website!? Eh whatever, I'll just ctrl+c and ctrl+v. 1. Chocolate was invented in 350 BCE in Mesoamerica (the land mass between North America and South America), where fermented drinks made from chocolate were consumed. Next time you eat chocolate, think about those ancient (and almost long forgotten) civilizations that brought this joy to you.

2. In 2017, the African country of Cote d'Ivoire (sometimes called the Ivory Coast) was the largest producer of cocoa beans, producing ~1.5 million tonnes of cocoa beans the year. This number towers over the second largest producer in 2017, Ghana, which only produced ~835 thousand tonnes of cocoa beans. However, there is a dark secret behind Cote d'Ivoire cocoa production. At many cocoa farms, child laborers have been found with 100 hour work weeks, harsh conditions, physical abuse, and no education. So next time you eat some chocolate, think about who may have grown the cocoa beans for it and whisper a thank you and a good luck to them.

3. Chocolate chip cookies were made by accident! This glorious treat might not even be around if it weren't for American chef Ruth Graves Wakefield. She owned the Toll House Inn Whitman, Massachusetts, which featured cooking. In 1937, Ruths was trying to make chocolate cookies by mixing chocolate chips and dough together, laying the mixture on a baking pan, and then throwing the pan into the oven. The plan was for the chocolate chips to melt into the dough and form a chocolate dough. But when she took the cookies out, the chocolate hadn't melted into the dough and she had cookies with chocolate chips in them. Behold, the chocolate chip cookie was born. The historic inn where the chocolate chip cookies were invented is no longer there though, as it burned to the ground on New Year's Eve in 1984. Ruths Graves Wakefield died in 1977, and not many people think of her when they open a pack of Chips Ahoy and guzzle it down. So next time you open that pack of cookies, think of the magnificent lady who invented them.

4. Americans eat about 2.8 billion pounds of chocolate or about 1.3 billion kilograms of chocolate every year. That's about a little over 11 pounds or 5 kilograms of chocolate per person every year! These numbers have most likely increased too. Maybe the fast food industry isn't the only one to blame for the obesity epidemic in America...

5. According to Guinness World Records, the world's largest chocolate bar was created by Thorntons plc (UK) in Alfreton, Derbyshire, UK on October 7, 2011. The huge bar measured 4 meters (13 ft 1.48 in) by 4 meters (13 ft 1.48 in) by .35 meters (1 ft 1.78 in) and weighed a whopping 5,792.50 kg (12,770 lb 4.48 oz). I challenge you to eat that flareon! (Long silence...) Wait...NO FLAREON NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! -Watches all of Europe burn- Dang it! How am I going to explain this to Jolteon? Sigh...
