Reality of Dreams, Book 1: DreamfallenProse Character Descriptions
Written by Raika Mikata
Bao Xin (Protagonist)
She was the quiet type. Never said much, and never had much to say. With people she trusts she’s a bit more animated, but with many people it’s hard to remember that she even exists at all. She has a sweet, almost melancholic smile, one that although makes an impression, once gone so does the feeling. As a dreamer, she herself acts much like one; someone who comes in, perhaps ordinary at times, perhaps not… but upon exiting, leaves behind only a few small details and a faint memory of a good impression.
She views the world as a dull place. There is hardly anything that really captures her interest except playing outside. However due to a medical condition, she’s not allowed outside. Trapped in a world she cannot leave, she instead dwells in her dreams, where she can fly, jump over buildings, travel to different places and even swim in the deepest depths of the ocean without worry. Here she can relax and enjoy the “world.”
Bao Xin’s family:
Her father is working full-time, so isn’t home much. Her mother also works, but comes home early or often takes days off to be with her. They have an okay relationship, but Bao Xin knows that deep down, her mother is worried sick about her and is worried that her condition might not get any better. Though secretly rather sharp, she stays silent in hopes of not wrecking the dream of innocence for her family.
Aylisha (Friend of Protagonist)
Friend of Bao Xin, she was there when Bao Xin had an accident. She comes over when she can to visit her friend to cheer her up and listen to her stories. She likes listening to Bao Xin’s stories, but knows that they are not real, for they are “just dreams”. She’s more serious than Bao Xin and often reminds her friend of reality, but at the same time secretly wishes she could dream as vividly as Bao Xin does to escape her own world.
Faced with her own problems, Aylisha rarely shares her own view of the world to Bao Xin. She secretly wishes for her friend to keep her naiveté a little longer, for the world is such an unfair and dirty place.
Hyono (Antagonist/Catalyst)
A tree-spirit within a forest, Hyono has no choice but to stay in one place. He has lived a very long time, and it has gotten rather boring. He yearns for new adventures, and like Bao Xin, can only travel in his dreams. However unlike Bao Xin, he cannot always remember them when he awakens. When he does meet her in a dream, he is overjoyed with the stories she tells.
