So here is the Leviathan I was talking about!

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but is this fan art based on Kingdom Hearts? The game series that crosses over Disney and Final Fantasy respectively.
Ariel we all know where she's from, but in the Final Fantasy series there is a water based summon monster that appears multiple installments called Leviathan who is a water based serpent. Take a look:

So hence the question since in Kingdom Hearts Disney and Final Fantasy meet. Though Leviathan has yet to actually appear in the Kingdom Hearts games.

Oh my god- can you imagine Disney actually doing something like that!? A petite mermaid princess befriending a scary-looking monster 100 times her size-! I could imagine it!
...unfortunately, the closest we might ever get to that is a stupid little clumsy eel that goes "duh!" because Disney could fear scaring a little kid, HEAVEN FORBID. (Know what? Ursula is pretty creepy when you watch her as a little kid on the big screen like I did, and I turned out pretty okay. In fact, she's perhaps one of Disney's best-crafted characters ever IMO.

Hahaha, Have you watched the Disney Hercules? The Hydra actually came pretty close, i dont think that disney is all too much afraid of scaring little kids. Although Hercules didnt befriend it.

In pre-production meetings for TLM, Ursula was going to be Triton's sister (i.e. Ariel's aunt), and he would have transformed her into the ugly cecaelia she is now as punishment for her betrayal (hence her quest for revenge). This was dropped because it distracted from Ariel's story too much, and all we know from the final product is that she was in the palace at one time before and may have always been a cecaelia.
The TV series, TLM-II, and all official publications have also kept vague about this as well. However, this plot point was brought back for the failed "TLM On Broadway" show, including why she was banished and transformed, and how she acquired the shell necklace she has in her animated form.
