In search of the ancient godsin search of the ancient gods,
I sometimes pause and turn my face
to the bright, riotous future
behind me:

I feel Time warp around me
like mist, like a sudden hush,
like even the trees
have stopped growing:

then I turn my face forward,
looking backwards again,
listen to the fauna creak and groan
as they shudder back into life.
