The Caruana Galizia-class was a series of six corvettes commissioned by the AFP in the 3800s. The ships were intended to be dispatched to support investigations and newsgathering in situations where a secure, independent base of operations was required. As this was expected to result in frequent deployment to conflict and disaster areas, the ships were fitted with expanded medical facilities to allow them to provide humanitarian aid.

Although the ships were civilian-registered and armed only with collision lasers, they were classified as corvettes because the design was a variant of the Jilan-class recon corvettes constructed for the Wherrick System Patrol. This design was chosen for its powerful engine and focus on signals intelligence systems.

The Caruana Galizia-class were the subject of a confiscation order from the Galactic Defense League government within two years of their launch, on the grounds that they were being used for subversive activities (in other words, they were being used to investigate topics that made the government uncomfortable). Hardev Yarat attempted to flee from the GDL Navy frigate sent to take it into custody, was badly damaged by a missile in the ensuing chase, and was scrapped upon recovery. Alex Miyo and Jackson Burne received damage to their engines in similar situations, but were nevertheless placed into GDL mothball yards along with the remaining ships of the class. All five surviving ships were left in storage until the 45th century, when the Post-War Dispositions Administrate transferred them to various spaceflight and civil history museums.
