Jiangshi are the artificial shock troopers introduced in the later days of the War of 4404. Highly resilient and lightning-fast in all aspects, Jiangshi evolved into the elite marine forces attached to AI warships, having the strength and speed to keep up with AI-fast operations and maneuvers. After the War, Jiangshi continued to serve with AI ships, but spread out into the general population, ultimately becoming just another self-sustaining species in the galactic ecosystem.

By the Quiet Era, Jiangshi citizens were commonplace. In their role as marines aboard AI-controlled ships, they were replaced by direct sub-units of the ship AI. The Cayd Fleet called these sub-units Huskarls, and manufactured them in the form of four-armed humanoids. Huskarls could be found as extensions of Fleet ships, as well as of Cayd stations and cities. Their duties were not only military in nature; Huskarls carried out any activities required by the AI controlling them, including community services for stations and cities. Huskarls from their ship would accompany Knights of Cayd Rock on any mission, and often trained with them to ensure they could operate as a flawless team under pressure.
