Description
It swallows me, Ingests the earth,
Leaving no trace of life. No shadow. Only silence.
When most sleep, I lie awake,
My eyes open, jaw clenched,
I wait for a stalking preditor,
A patient pervert,
A wretched beast to cackle and take me.
Blanketed in black. No light.
An eternal space between sleep and reality.
Where my imagination is left to give birth to monsters,
Things that a child's mind could never create.
As helpless as a babe, I wait for the hint of a sunrise
The flicker of a street light.
And the darkness of the evening denies me.
The empty space devours my comfort.
And the night carries out forever
Until morning peeks over the hills
Into the windows
To let me sleep. To let me dream.
In darkness.
