Description
"Jade, stop crying dammit,"Niko heaved a heavy sigh as she awkwardly patted on Jade's hitching shoulders. To think that the sobbing-laced phone call she received from her mere hours ago was an actual life-threatening situation. The woman nearly regretted rushing over there looking as if she was excited to take down a whole killing squad. She found herself 'consoling' the crying girl, unable to escape the death grip Jade had around her waist. It's been two hours already, and she was slowly opting to just rip her arms off her and leave.
"Jade, your tears are soaking my shirt."
"How could Ben do that?" Jade gasped out, in between sobs, "Why couldn't he just break up with me normally?"
The hitman wheezed slightly when she felt the smaller girl's arms squeeze tighter around her waist. She was becoming increasingly curious that the babbling coming from Jade's mouth was lapsing into Japanese, and her crying has gotten only worse. Niko couldn't help but wonder why did she pass up a twenty-grand operation with her partner in Morocco for this...and where are the two people who should be here doing the consoling business instead of her.
Another hour passed before Niko succeeded in escaping from the heartbroken girl's iron-grip. She was now settling herself quite comfortably on the couch, keeping a watchful eye on Jade as she just finished downing the first tub of ice cream. The Japanese managed to pull herself together enough to sit cross-legged on the couch, scornfully glaring at the TV in front of her as she stabbed the spoon into the second tub.
"Stupid prick," Jade muttered to the screen before going into Japanese muttering again.
Just before Niko was ready to pull a gun to her head, she heard a knock on the door. Jade, still in a half-dazed state, left the couch to answer it. Brown eyes widened as she gaped at the open entrance. Jade somehow managed to find her voice for a terrified scream before slamming it shut. Niko's killer reflexes kicked in the second she heard it, leaping over the couch and raced to the door. The second she kicked the door open, the Beretta was gripped firmly in her hands and the safety was flicked off. She found the younger girl's ex, Reynolds looking as if he had been put through a trash compactor. Just looking at the mass of bruises and his slouched posture, she could tell he was so dazed to have realized that he was meeting the business end of a pistol.
"Reynolds, what the hell are you doing here?" Niko snarled, unfazed by the visitor,
"I-I came here to a-apologize to Jade."
"Look Casanova I don't give a rats ass if you're gonna beg," she started, "get the hell out before –"
"Niko, it's okay," Jade assured, putting a hand over Niko's in attempt to lower the pistol in her hand,
Said woman mutely but obviously refused, tensing her arms to keep the barrel pointed in between Reynolds' eyes to the point the firearm began shaking from Jade's intervention. He was now fully aware of the danger he was in, standing directly in front of an armed woman with the burning glare that screamed she would not hesitate to use deadly force.
"Please?" The girl pleaded once more, her voice now adopting a soft edge to it,
Respecting her wishes, Niko lowered her hand as she resumed to glare daggers to the man who seemed to have lost his voice. His hazel eyes kept shifting nervously from Jade, to Niko to the gleaming Beretta by her side, fearing the outcome of his choice of words. Before he could even get a syllable out, two voices he heard echoing down the hallway had him frozen stiff.
"Oh look, the sod could still walk," he recognized that accent anywhere, coming from that loud redhead that approached him at the bar.
"Hmm, seems that he didn't see our point," Reynolds remembered the calm voice from that rich guy that hung around Jade a lot, the same one with the killer right hook,
"I get first hit, before he buggers off."
"Like I'd let you."
"If you put him in a chokehold, he'd be dead once you're done."
"Better than getting fatally shot."
"Nah, I'm gonna start at the limbs and joints first."
Fearing that they'd return for a second 'talking to', Reynolds turned on his heel and fled, screaming bloody murder. The approaching duo and Niko could only look on as the poor man scrambled about to reach the staircase, leaving them to wonder if he had any physical coordination left to navigate the five flights of stairs. Both Rain and Leon, unfazed by the frenzied mess that just ran past them, soon reached to Jade's side to engage in chatter that managed to bring out a smile on her tear-streaked face. Niko silently watched how the two managed to get the girl to smile again, not realizing how a fond smile managed to crack across her stoic demeanor.
"Oi," Niko called out, just after Jade disappeared back into her apartment, "what the hell was that?"
"What the hell was what?" Leon replied.
"What did you two 'say' to Reynolds?" She quirked an eyebrow when she noticed how the two seemed to smile proudly to themselves.
"We ran into him just outside a bar, and thought we should ask what made him change his mind..." Rain started.
"...and go screw around with another girl..." Leon added.
"...right behind Jade's back..."
"...for nearly a month..."
"...and still insist he loved her..."
"...even after threatening to dismember his legs..."
"...and arms."
"Count yourselves lucky that you're telling that to me. If you didn't, I think you would've made her cry till her tears run out for good." She smirked when the two were rendered speechless.
"Tch, you should've let me do the dirty work. From now on you guys be the damage control and I go after them."
"Them?" Leon asked. "Are you implying that if something like this ever happens you're willing to help?"
"I just don't want to be used as the human tissue box for three hours."
