Description
There's a difference between 'skill' and 'style'.Many people who can't draw for shit use the excuse: "It's just my style. This is how I draw!"
If your style is intentionally designed to look awful, then, good for you. But if it really is "just a style" and not due to a lack of skill, you should be able to draw in other styles as well.
If your only style is 'shit', then that's not your style, that's just a lack of skill.

on instagram theres been these "do and dont" tutorials going around and ALL the comments are "do you know what an art style is??" "people can have art styles!!!!!111!!"
but the videos were about anatomy and actually helping you get better at proportions and stuff,,,,

There was this person who argued that the same facial expression on every character in their gallery was an artstyle...

I dislike it when I see galleries like that.
Obviously the person has no variety whatsoever, and that makes their art boring.

yeah.
I can admit that I have decent art - not good, but not terrible. I'm working on it, but I do need to find a style.
the thing about this is that for most people it actually is their style and they DO have skill. BUT THEY ARE GOOD AT SHOWING IT IN THEIR STYLE. that is a major difference.

Edit// Oh my god I found it- look in catiewith 's gallery comments
BLESS THIS STAMP
There was one nine year old on here and I was looking through their gallery (because they joined one of my groups I'm admin of) and I saw that in the comments somebody was trying to politely ask them if they needed help with studying anatomy to make their cats look like they haven't been sleeping in a blander for a few centuries, but they rudely stated "THIS IS MY STYLE WHY CAN'T I JUST BE UNIQUE THIS IS WHO I AM"
It was hilarious- and not only that, but the character they entered in in the group had a misspelled name, and even when confronted about it she said it was like that intentionally and continued to "correct: people during roleplay and such

This is exactly the kind of thing that annoys me about most artist on Deviantart. Everyone is so occupied and obsessed on developing an edgy artstyle yet dismiss actually developing the core essentials "Foundation" that makes great art in the firsts place. I may not have much of a "Style", but I would much rather focus on building a solid foundation for my art skills and work on a kewl unique style later down the road. In short you can have a cute or interesting style, but if you lack the most of the bare essentials then you might as well be putting glitter on a pile of dog shit.

I'll be blunt, yeah, "shit" is my style, but I don't try to make excuses for it.

Great points. Some people never learn the difference between the two.

3 words: Art history classes. Apparently some guy a while ago drew in his 'style' which literally look like a child's drawing and everyone now praise it and call it art -_- I understand he is trying to show some reflection of his life, but don't pass it off as 'that child-like style is art' and then when someone else tries it, those same people would call those people untalented (not calling you one). Hate when a 'famous' artist gets away with something and when someone tries it, they get ridiculed. I'm still learning and not calling my art good because to me I have a lot to improve on.

My style is "everything has canine anatomy." It's totally valid. Just because I can't draw other things doesn't mean I lack skills, I totally just don't wanna draw anything else ever at all. You can't criticize me, I'm not a professional, I don't need to improve! I do this for fun so you can back off! I like my style, so it's just as good as everyone else's, if not better! What's objectivity?
In all seriousness, this is a very good stamp with a very good message.

I agree.
Just because you cant draw a character's nose properly and added a huge, pink-raw looking nose to it with a lot mistakes included, it's not a reason to say that.
Style is an artist's expression I believe. It's like drawing the character with the same eyes and nose as the other's, and has added effects to the said character drawing made by the artist. Skill, on the other hand, is the experience amongst the effects you use. Like if I say I do advanced shading, then I would tend to master it because of skill.

You seem to have somewhat of a distinct style, but certain anatomical inconsistencies suggest that you have room for improvement.
But it's kind of a question you'd have to answer for yourself.
