I do have a book which lists the recurring themes in Burton's work, one of which is stripes. You definitely couldn't miss the stripes theme in this film!

Oh, yeah! I smiled at the thought that, once again, Mr. Burton found a way to get black and white stripes into his new film then suddenly remembered an image from a certain cartoon long ago... It just had to be done!

LOL! How ironic! I just got back from seeing Sweeny Todd.
You know what the worst thing was when I saw that film?
The first time he killed that 'Italian' guy and as soon as the kid got up the stairs and there was no blood the only thing I saw was Barry Scott Jumping out saying Sweeny Todd used Cillit Bang to get rid of the blood stains so quickly! (And then Sweeny Todd slitting Scotts throat 
But that was a fun film and that was a fun fantasy scene.
