In the age of Skyward Sword, Majora was a dragon protector of the Termina region, similar to Lanayru, she grew ill. The people she protected didn't know how to heal a dragon, so they left her to die.
Her anger and dwindling power made her desperate... Majora abandoned her form and stole the body of a Great Fairy. Still angered by the people's insolence, she vowed to get revenge by slowly leading them to their doom.
She quickly gathered a reputation as the Cursed Fairy that was to be avoided at any cost. Eventually a warrior came upon her dark spring, Majora had yet to regain her lost power but she could easily grant the warrior enough power to purge the land while she heals. Unbeknownst to her, the warrior could not be controlled thanks to the protection of a magical tribe. The tribe had hired him to strike her down. With his new powers, one fatal blow was all he needed to take her down... Majora had to release her grip on the Great Fairy's body.

In order to prevent her from finding a new puppet, the tribe sealed her away into a mask. Then they sealed the warrior's gifted powers into another mask (Fierce Diety Mask) if she were to ever escape her prison.

Some generations attempted to use the mask but only death came to the user. Eventually the masks were hidden away.

Until a certain Mask Salesman uncovered the powerful masks....
