Description
Even though he tried not to think about, Yukiki couldn't help but feel confused by what Giruru and told him."You won't have much to enjoy when it starts to hail." Is what Giruru had said. What in the world was that supposed to mean?
It was even stranger the next day. Yukiki had fallen asleep by the piano again --with a makeshift stool from the attic--, his head resting on the piano keys. He grunted when two of the keys popped off, stuck to his cheek. He peeled them off and set them aside. When he stepped back to actually look at it, the piano really needed repairing. But, he hadn't a clue as how to fix it. Sure, he could just make a new piano out of ice, but even that didn't seem satisfying enough to him. Maybe he could borrow Gyororo's laptop-gizmo.
Maybe it would be easier to ask Mekeke….Yukiki frowned and sighed. He decided he would worry about it later.
"Doku?" The snowman turned to see the friendly ghost keronian floating by the door. Dokuku smiled; he was wearing Yukiki's hat.
"Oh, hi, Dokuku. Can I have my hat back?" Dokuku made what sounded like a laugh and floated out into the hallway. He wanted Yukiki to follow. The snowman sighed once more before entering the hallway. Yukiki looked to see where Dokuku went and was greeted with a snowball exploding in his face and the bursting laugh of Putata.
"PffffftHAHAHAHA!!!" Putata laughed. Mekeke was beside him trying not to laugh as well, but failing at it. Yukiki merely stood there as they laughed. "Hoho! That's payback, yo!" They weren't laughing for long when the snowman hurled two snowballs at their faces, both a bull's-eye.
"That was a mistake." Yukiki said, though he was amused by the surprise look on their faces.
Putata was quick to recover. "Oh please! If we were outside, we'd of creamed you, yo."
"Is that a challenge?" The words were out of Yukiki's mouth before he realized.
"The snowstorm has stopped." Mekeke said. "And there's plenty of snow for us to beat you in a snowball fight."
Somehow, in some way, that actually didn't sound like a bad idea. "I'd like to see you try."
Hanana walked up the hill towards the mansion. A basket filled with freshly baked cookies in her arms. She decided it would be nice to visit again since she knew that none of the Shurara corps members knew how to bake. And she felt as though she had to apologize to Yukiki for leaving so suddenly the other day. It was rude to just leave him alone like that, especially after seeing him so off.
Not to mention, she had been thinking about the snowman a lot more often than usual. Perhaps, it was when she had invited Yukiki to her house the first time. Even before when they were talking in the hallway. There's was just something about him that intrigued her. She remembered asking Putata and Mekeke about him once.
"Yukiki? Well, he's a bit of a sour puss, see?" Putata had said. "It's always frowny faces and sass. And if you ask me he's got a bit of a stick up his a-"
Mekeke had been quick to interrupt. "Well, we haven't really talked to him that much. Whenever we do, he kind of gives us a death glare like the killer snowman from that pekoponian movie." Putata had nodded in agreement. "Anyway, maybe he's just not the social type."
Though, Hanana wasn't so sure about that. Not once, for all the while she knew Yukiki, never once had he given her any such "death glare" as Mekeke had described. Now, it was actually hard to think that the snowman could possess such an expression. Okay...maybe not so hard. But, whenever she caught him looking at her, his eyes were always soft. It made her giggle remembering how he would always quickly look away and try and hide his face behind his hat.
Perhaps, did he like her? With the way he acted around her, it was possible. But more importantly, did she like him?
A light blush crept on her cheeks. She couldn't deny that she had some feelings for the snowman. Though she couldn't quiet determine if it was feelings for a friend or something more.
"Stop it." Hanana told herself. She had already said that she loved Giruru and that's that.
Right?
Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by what sounded like yelling. Hanana followed the sounds and was surprised when they led her to the front of the mansion. She was even more surprised by what she saw. Putata and Mekeke where crouching behind a small fort of snow. Each had a pile of snowballs beside them. Putata attempted to stand up to throw one of the snowballs. But, he was quickly shot down with a snowball to the chest. It had hit so hard and so fast it threw him back a couple feet before he fell on his back. Mekeke tried to help his friend only to meet the same fate. Hanana looked towards the direction the snowballs came from and her eyes widened.
Yukiki stood at the other end of the snow-covered field with one thick wall of snow to use as cover and a huge pile of snowballs. The snowman was looking almost pleased with himself. Though, it wasn't any sort of arrogant expression. In fact, it almost looked…playful. It didn't seem as though Hanana had yet been noticed.
Hanana got an idea and gathered as much snow as she could in her hands and made a snowball. Before she attempted to throw it, she placed her basket of cookies by a tree. She readied her snowball, took aim, and threw.
The snowball hit home, getting the snowman right in the chest. Yukiki stumbled back a bit from the force of the blow and surprise of its sudden appearance. Hanana quickly hid behind a tree trying to contain her laughter. The snowman noticed the flash of movement. Still feeling the rush from the previous challenge, Yukiki took up another snowball and made his way over to the tree. He went around and raised his arm ready to throw the snowball. But nothing was there. He lowered his arm.
Strange could have sworn I saw-"Agh!" His own thought's turned to a verbal yell of surprise as someone tackled him, wrapping their arms around his chest, and sending them both tumbling through the snow. When they stopped tumbling, Yukiki could only hear the sounds of laughter and looked down to see that his attacker was Hanana.
"H-Hanana?!" He was both surprised and happy to see her, but neither couldn't compare to the mighty flutter in his chest. The snowman tried wriggling out of the hug but she only held on tighter. So, he relented.
"Well, well." Hanana giggled. "That wasn't so hard. All it took was a snowball and a hug and it's seems as though I won!" Her victory laugh was cut short as out of nowhere, for a quick moment, she felt cold as two arms wrapped around her in a quick embrace. Hanana looked up at the Yukiki, surprised by the sudden gesture.
The flutter in his chest grew bigger and his face grew warmer. He was quick to make an excuse. "That is the appropriate response to when friends hug, yes?"
"Oh, yes." She wasn't sure how to feel about that. "Friends." Hanana let go and sat up. Yukiki sat up as well. They sat there in silence for neither of them was sure of what to say. Safe to say that things had gotten awkward.
What was that just now?! Yukiki thought. This was his second hug since his visit to Hanana's house. But then it had been rather sudden and quick. But now…well… okay, it was still pretty sudden. But even so, that was his SECOND hug he had ever gotten in his life. And it was within the same week and given to him by the same person. How is that even possible?! And he hugged her back. He didn't even know why he did it.
It just sort of happened.
Calm down Yukiki took a breath. Let's be rational. I'll gain nothing by losing my head like this. He forced the trivial fluttering to stop and regained his posture. And just as sudden as the hug had been, he was old Yukiki again. The fluttering stopped and emotions buried. By that point Hanana had stood up and brushed the snow off her winter dress and went to retrieve her basket.
What was that? Hanana thought. Although he made it sound as a friendly hug yet it didn't feel like it. What bothered her most was how cold it was. Though, she guessed that's what happens when you hug a snowman. Even so, it worried her.
She took her mind off it by looking for her basket for it wasn't where she had left it. But, as far as Hanana could see, the basket was nowhere. She could have sworn she had left it right there.
"Hey, Hanana!" Putata had walked up to her, covered in clumps of snow. "What wrong, yo?"
"I had left a basket full of cookies right here." Hanana gestured to the base of the tree. "But now it's gone."
"Who would steal a basket of cookies?" Mekeke joined them, also covered in snow.
"I don't know. Maybe….oh!" Hanana saw a flash of movement in the trees. Putata and Mekeke saw it too. Before either of them knew it Hanana was giving chase. "Hey! Please stop!" She called after it as she made her way through the thick forest trees.
"Wait, Hanana!" Putata and Mekeke called and gave chase as well. Yukiki remained where he was.
Sitting alone in the snow.
