~~Tama~~

His name is Maori for "son."

Chosen by the feminine, ever-tidal forces of the moon, Tama started out as a simple lanterneye, or flashlight fish.
When he came to the shallows of an ocean shore one night, he was selected and given higher sentience, his body slightly altered, and the ability to use magic.
But perhaps most special of all, in order to help him in all his endeavors, the moon gave him the ability to shape shift into a tiny dragon.

Of course, Tama isn't a real dragon; he's a fish, and it shows in his aquatic body.
He was chosen to establish and guard a garden over a large open-field expanse in the midst of a clearing of woods, just by the sea.
Tama built for himself a home out of stone brick, a large blue bed, and collected sea lanterns to utilize.
One in his ceiling as a constant soft blue light, and light blue glass windows.

A couple yards straight in front of his home lies a well with another sea lantern in it.
In the center sets the lantern, and the well's stone brick matches Tama's house.
The purpose of the well is to collect and store moonlight that hits it almost every night (unless it's a new moon or there are clouds).
Many nights, Tama will spend an hour or two in his fish form, gently floating in the water, absorbing the light.
It helps charge him.

The real purpose of the garden is to maintain it and keep it enchanted with blue flowers, gems, and a large pool of fresh water not too far from the sea.
The flowers, which are all blue, are collected by Tama and arranged all around the garden at random.
Forget-me-nots, blue cornflowers, blue orchids, a select few ghost maple bushes, and other rare and mysterious flowers.
The gems he collects are diamond, opalite, moonstone, labrodite, lapis lazuli, and other precious blue stones.
Blocks of lapis and diamond ore, as well as ore clusters, can be found in various locations around the garden, though the bigger ones are closer to his house.
Various loose gems and stones are found in large mixed piles in baskets near his house.

Inside Tama's house, he has four blast furnaces for smelting down iron and gold, which he keeps for personal reasons.
There are also blue shulker boxes, which he uses for storage.
How he obtained such rare items is unknown.

Tama collects gems and flowers and brings them back to his garden in service of the moon, because the moon wants him to be able to give some of them away when needed.
Magically charged stones and flowers of calming, guardianship, healing and other otherworldly powers are offered to some who come visit the garden.
Some, but not all...

~~The Garden~~

Tama lives in general isolation at the edge of a continent, with mountains and forests helping to keep him hidden.
He is very difficult to find, and even more so to please.
The stones and flowers he collects are quite obviously very special treasures that both humans and trolls (villagers) like.
Many treasure-hunters, thieves and selfish people have come in search of his ever-growing assortment, but as it is, Tama doesn't like to fight.
So to any whom try to enter the garden, they must first get past his sentinels.

Using magic, soon after his transformation, Tama enchanted large piles of rocks to take large, monster-like bipedal forms with moon symbols on their heads.
The moon sentinels, as he calls them, exist in the dozens and guard the perimeter of the territory.
So when anyone tries to enter, they are met by these guards, who have a special gift that Tama doesn't.
They can sense the intentions of the ones who visit.
Should those approaching bear ill-will and are acting out of senseless greed as opposed to seeking help, the sentinels will take any luggage they have with them permanently, and will cast the intruders out of the garden.

Luggage taken by thieves is done so to prove a point; not only will you not be able to take from this garden selfishly, but you will lose even more in the process.
The personal belongings of those who've been evicted are tossed into the entrance of a cave system near the edge of the garden.
It is hidden underground.
Tama long took measures to keep it hidden from plain sight, but a lantern hanging from a fence post marks the entrance, which is sealed up by trapdoors.
The doors lead to a staircase which descends into the cave entrance.
At arrival, one could see the confiscated bags and items right away in lazy piles.
Visitors are not allowed in the cave.

Tama spends many nights leaving his guards in charge while he risks it all to grow his garden.
Hunting and mining for gems, picking flowers and then returning sometimes days later with his finds.

Oddly enough, many animals are drawn to the garden and seem to feel at ease in it.
Tama's lost count of how many pregnant female animals come and birth their young in the garden, often munching on the flowers before going into labor.
Tama suspects the flowers provide a bit of pain relief for the mothers-to-be, and thus he is happy to give them up to those who want them for such a thing in their own lives.

~~Personality~~

He is kind, patient, soft spoken, and a self-made pacifist.
Gentle, curious and task-driven is he, and he loves nothing more than to bask in the night and appreciated every phase of his mother moon.
He often expresses curiosity about villages, but tends to avoid getting too close for fear of being seen.
He may show in the night to pick blue flowers near their homes, though.
Being aloof, hidden and hard to find is part of his being, after all.

Although patient, he will not tolerate intruders, but is an ever-friendly host to those who are accepted into the domain.
The kinder and more selfless the heart, the more likely they are to get fuller tours of the garden.
He may also give them extra goodies that they don't ask for as a symbol of how putting goodness into the world, or simply being humble, deserves to be rewarded.

He's graceful, nocturnal, quiet, and loves to sing.

~~Physiology~~

This species has an organ under each eye that is bioluminescent as a result of active bacteria.
But when the moon changed him, it put the light in his eyes themselves, which he can command at will through magic.
He also gained luminescent tips on some of his fins.
Those, plus the stripes on his body, glow a rich shade of blue-violet, and his eyes glow bright blue when he's using his magic.
Every part of him that can glow will do so together.

When standing, Tama is 4 1/2 feet tall, not including the horns.
He has three fingers and a thumb per hand and four toes per foot.
As a fish, he's only five inches long.

When in fish form, he can only breathe water, but in dragon form he can breathe air and water.

His eyes are a dark goldish-brown.

Unlike a real dragon, Tama cannot breathe fire or any other element.

He can die if he isn't careful.
He has to sleep during the day, but he doesn't have to eat.
It's also preferable for him to have constant access to water or he'll dry out/fall ill.
But if he's without water for too long (in dragon form), rather than dying, he will dry up, stiffen, and go into a death-like sleep.
The only way to revive him is to lay him in water and wait.
After a day or so, he will revive, but it could take a couple weeks to get his strength back in full.

The same effect is had on him if he's kept away from moonlight for too long.
He is weakest during cloudy nights and new moons, though it would take a couple weeks of moonlight deprivation to start draining him badly.

~~Magical Prowess~~

Tama's magic is powerful and mysterious.
For the most part, he only uses it to stimulate the water, flowers, and gems in his garden, as well as amass new sentinels to stand watch.
But he can also use it to manipulate water in small parts, as well as enchant some inanimate objects.
He seldom uses his power too often, preferring to be sparing.
However, in dire situations, he can unlock mass amounts of energy which help him manipulate the environment, but mostly water.
After using too much power at once, he may fall unconscious for a small amount of time.
If enough is used up, he will do this while involuntarily morphing back into a fish.

Tama is magically stronger during a solar eclipse, but very weak during a lunar eclipse.
This also weakens and strengthens the magic of his garden all together, which means sentinels may have a harder time defending it.

When dried out or out of power, moonlight and water are the best ways to heal him, but the effect is enchanced if he's returned to his home.
In a way, the garden is almost like a personal charging station.
