Godzilla: Sorry, but an artificial bouquet is kinda cheap. Come back with some park trees, dork!
No, seriously, this is totally adorable. So simple, yet so elegant. I love it!

... and the poor robot wanders off, dejected... the blossoms of spring are all spent and fall seems an awful long way off...
(thanks!)

Fortunately, the robot had a plan. He happened to have a self-destruct button on his person, so he activated it, ending his sorrows, and also destroying a good half of Japan.
(you're welcome!)

Oh my goodness this is so cool! I really love the layering and the texture. So this is really stacked and not just 2 dimensional?

failur3 In reply to stoopidsquig [2009-02-23 04:42:56 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's 5 layers of bristol.
I drew it on paper (one layer) printed it up 4 times at low opacity and inked each layer separate, adding what parts needed to be drawn in behind things. Then I scanned each layer back in, colored each layer digitally, printed each layer out on bristol board (where the texture comes from). Thennnnn i cut each layer out with an X-acto knife, colored the side of the board black (it's thick enough that when you light it the white of the depth of the paper catches the light, so it needs to be colored D: ). Glued the sky down, attached each layer to the layer before it with glue and little 1cm pieces of balsa wood, to space them, lit it, photographed it, then went to down in photoshop with clean up.
... I didn't quite realize how ridiculous that process was until I typed the whole thing up... hoo boy.

Good grief. That is a lot of work. It looks freakishly sick though. I bet it's even better in person. It's awesome when you feel so motivated to put that much work into something and then it turns out well, no?
