In researching this drawing, I learned that a merry-go-round with animals other than horses is called a "menagerie carousel" and I looked at a lot of them with zebras and roosters, cockerels and chickens while drawing this.

The model for the chicken (with different legs) revolves on the Boston Common carousel The real-life zebra (in different livery) is on the Memphis Zoo carousel.
