For those who don’t know, Nezha is a Chinese mythological character from the Chinese novel ‘Investiture of the Gods’ written in the Ming Dynasty. Nezha is a 3,000+ year old deity born in the Shang Dynasty whose story details his peculiar birth, rebllion against his father, battle against the four Dragon Kings and his ultimate sacrifice — an act of filial piety. Yet it was all a part of his destiny to become a deity and fight against the tyrannical King Zhou of the Shang Dynatsy, amongst many other gods. 2,000 years later, he goes on to fight against the infamous Monkey King, Sun Wukong, in yet another famous novel, ‘Journey to the West’ (also written in the Ming Dynasty). Nezha is cute as he is deadly, and was known as the “Herculean Brat” when he was a child. Nezha is an interesting and complex character.
