As oppose to being made out of love (Garnet) I think Rhode is made out of comfort.
Two working Gems get shouted at by the Queen of Hearts - Morganite - until they're so nervous and jumpy.
They cling together for security.
And one day Rhodonite is formed.
(she probably does the house chores even better this way)
But she gets discovered and has to flee.
