I guess there isn't much male/female friendships in mlp to show that difference. The other ones like Cheerilee/Big Mac and Spike/Rarity are also somewhat romantic at some degree. Is not surpising if they would do the same with them.

Flutters is probably Discord's BFF. But if given the chance, considering what a nice and accepting individual Celestia is, it isn't out of the realm of possibility for her and Discord to become decent friends at least.Β
