Description With the release of three Pinocchio animated film adaptations, suffice to say that i took interest and looked up the original book, even watched a more faithful animated 1972 adaption. And yeah, i sorta got interested in making 'alternate endings' to its characters, in this case the Fox in the Cat.

In the book, Fox and the Cat pull off a tiktok by faking disabilities when they are first introduce. In one of the last chapters, they were last seen actually being disabled for all the cons they committed. Basic fairy tale karma stuff. And speaking of fairy tales, this gave me minor inspiration for an idea to include to my Twisted Fairytale concept. In Twisted Fairytale canon, the Fox and the Cat were drifters who resort to conning people as no one wants to hire them on the account of their species' stereotypes. Just like in the original story, they conned our good ol wooden boy and in the end gets disabled and left to starve in the streets. However, there's more to them in the end in my concept.

There are two timelines in TF, the 'good end' one being the kid-friendly version of fairy tales and the 'bad end' one where everything is dark like in their original tellings. In the 'bad end' timeline, we get to know more about the characters, particularly some bad guys as to tie the old saying 'don't judge a book by it's cover' and the whole book motif going on.

In this timeline, Humpty Dumpty became the main ruler of the land while some characters are rebelling against him. The Fox and the Cat ended up like in the original story, where in the 'good end' timeline where they simply arrested for their crimes. The Fairy with Turquoise Hair found them at the edge of town freezing. The fairy offers them a chance of redemption by providing them to live with her in her house in the woods in exchange that they should mend their ways for a year. The Fox initially refuses because he has given up at this point but changes his mind upon seeing his cat friend starving and freezing. So, the fairy takes them to her house where she has her animal servants feed them and tend their wounds.

One night, the fox sneaks out and tries to steal items from the fairy's house so he can sell them. The fairy, of course, having none of this and caught him in the act. The fox explains to her that this is how he and his friend have always worked ever since they were kits, with them fully embracing their bad stereotypes upon adulthood. The fairy, with the utmost chill, lectures him that embracing this path is what led to him and his friend getting the short end of the stick and they were close to freezing and starving death had it not been for cat begging and pleading. The fairy also explains that the cat told her in secret that he did so because he is in worse shape than the fox on the account that he is blind and is mixing an arm, so there's nothing left for him to do. The fox, for the first time, was touched and feeling sorry that his friend wanted him to be take this chance of redemption without him fully accepts the fairy's offer so he can tend to his friend.

Upon being fully nursed to health, the fox works for the fairy, chopping wood, heavy lifting and cooking while also tending to the cat himself to prove his dedication. After a year of working his ass off, the fairy rewards the fox with an enchanted prosthetic leg and some money so he and his friend can live off on their own without needing to worry about becoming jobless or starving. The fox, now fully redeemed kindly refuses the reward and instead wishes to become her loyal servant, asking nothing in return. Impressed by his dedication, the fairy grants his wish and he and the cat became her two servants, giving them fancy duds to let people know that they must be respected for she respects them.

In the events of Humpty's reign and the rebellion going on, the fairy gives the Fox and the Cat a job to keep the villagers safe from all the mess going on and they accept in her honor. The fairy enchants the fox's prosthetic into a blade he can summon and the cat a crossbow arm he can summon while enchanting his ears so that he can see through his hearing, because anime and badassery. So ends the tale of redemption of two loyal faithful mercenaries for an idea i have shelved for years and never worked on.

Sorry for story dumping, i got into a minor creative mood.
