Description

The dusk light shown in gold and red, tracing the treetops and glittering over the ice capped mountains. It was spring, but this area remained cold even during this time of year. They had already been traveling for the better part of an hour, but they couldn’t risk stopping yet.

Lio didn’t show his limp, taking every step like he was in peak condition. His head was held high as he led the front of the pack to the safety of the Wandering Mines. They had a long way to travel but he wanted to make sure they got the injured patch up and rest before that. He had Geuira and Meis go to get food and Lio would ensure everyone got inside the cave as the mouth of it was reached. His eyes were tired to those who knew him, but to others he looked like a beacon of hope and steadfast readiness.

It wouldn’t be until he could properly see the state of his pack that the confidence would fall. He was hurt, more hurt than he could ever have imagined being. His chest ached and he felt hopeless as the injuries his pack bore weighed on his own shoulders. Some were far worse off than others. Some on the brink of death. He was in the thick of it, taking over for sobbing partners or those who had already lost their own. He wrapped bandages and packed wounds.

This was HIS pack, this was his responsibility. When hsi pack would fall it was as if a piece of himself was stolen with him. Those weak he would stay with longer, attempting not to bait them with false hope or encouraging words, but to be a force there with them in their darkest hours. He wanted them to not feel alone, and to know that he was there.

Escaping Freeze force had not been an easy feat, but all their injuries weren’t from the escape, they were from the way they’d been treated at the facility, the place they called a prison. Anyone was  a fool if they believed the foundation to just be a prison. Niemand had been doing experiments on them for years, even if they didn’t understand why. The dire kept it undercover, portraying himself as some hero to the public, while those within the Meelanik pack suffered. It wasn’t hard to paint the picture of them being the bad guy, not when the urge to start fires was so great for many of them.

Lio’s heart sank for those who had to suffer for existing. For those who couldn’t control the gifts they’d been given. He hoped one day that they wouldn’t have to keep running. That one day their packs would be free again and walk among the people as equals. He was desperate for that ending. But for now, he was only desperate to ensure those rescued were safe - and lived. Because everything was all for not if he couldn’t save them.
