I though you used one of paintshop effect for the damaged paint. But everything can be done in Photoshop anyway.
I like the way shadows are placed. Well done.

yeah, it`s a simple trick.just paint over the flats soem battle damage with a chalk brush, then, dupicate the layer and invert it. when you have a layer with white battle damage place it under the black battle damage layer and using the arrows, move it so it fits the light source. and tadaaa, .....man...I suck at tutoring!!!!lol
