Description
Although commonly known as the sabre-toothed tiger, the Smilodon was not closely related to the tiger or other modern cats. Smilodon became extinct about 10,000 years ago, probably as a result of reliance on large animal prey species (which also died out at the same time), climate change and competition with other species.Maybe the Jurassic (actually Cretaceous) Park movie franchise could be revamped with extinct mammals (not as big, but certainly just as scary)...?
