Description Every morning, I look in the mirror
It's kinda hard not to
Since it makes finding your mouth
Easier than with a toothbrush
When you don't sleep as much
As every mom says you should
Every morning at about 7am...
Okay, 7:30am, I see the same set of eyes staring back
Bags that once held the light of youth,
Like the sun, drooping down, setting,
Hiding behind the morning,
Waiting for my eyelids to fall,
So it's safe to come out and play again
And it's times like these when I think about the things I miss the most

1. I miss the smells you could only get
From your bike between school and your house
On the last day of class before summer and winter
Like “it's finally over”
2. I miss the weight of a night spent
Staring into an ocean made of stars
3. I miss mastering time
Compressing the reality of hours
To the feel of minutes as I saved
Countless worlds made of polygons and pixels
4. I miss the act of mimicking God,
painting murals with the movement of my tongue and lips
And sculpting brave new worlds with a pen
5. I miss my hair or maybe just the option
6. I miss the trust whose earning
Was independent of my anatomy or its color
7. I miss bearing my heart in my hands
And holding it out to anyone who met my smile
As if to say, “This is everything that matters. Here. I'll share it with you if you'll stay a while. ”
8. I miss when “no” was my Jedi mind trick
9. I miss saying "I love you"
Like it's the only chance I'll get
10. I miss when "I trust you" was more like riding a bike
And less like fighting a war with a stick

I miss seeing the sun inside my eyes
But sometimes, if I tilt my head to the side
And maybe if I squint a little bit,
I can catch it playing
Behind the mountains of years
I can see my youth peek over the eyelid wall
Paint my face like the desert sky
And remind me for a second of everything that matters
