personally, the way i see it is that,
see where the angel is kneeling?
where both the hands are touching, there's a line
so it looks like the line represents the boundary between light and darkness

i like the way the artist did it, because it really gives out some meaning

But as you also notice, the angel's hand is slighty crossing the 'borderline'. So maybe a part of lightness is succumbing to the darkness...?
