Chapter XII - "Truths and Origins"

Things were getting out of hand, Edward was advancing on Violet too much and Helen knew she needed to put a stop to this before things go too far.

Bowling Night went well with Lucius winning the night overall but at least Edward and Violet got to spend time together much to Helen's despise. Edward did find himself surprised that throughout the rest of the night, he did not see Helen nor did he hear a single peep out of her. Did she give up? Anyway, it was late and everyone went to bed: Edward and Violet said goodbye to one another with Edward sneakily trying to lean in for a kiss but Violet simply said good night with a smile before returning to her room. Disappointed about that denial, Edward just smiled and took the smaller victory he had with Violet tonight then made his way to the living room where he relaxed on the couch. Soon enough, everything faded into darkness.

Sometime in the night, Helen wakes up with a gasp, stands up, then looks into the mirror to see her face and her face alone, making her sigh with relief, "Thank god." She did not hesitate to move into the master bedroom where Bob was sleeping, "Bob. Bob. Get up." Bob manages to slowly stir awake, groaning slightly,

"Huh, what? H-Helen?" Helen quickly grabs his hand to pull him up,

"Yeah. Get up. We need to talk." Helen practically drags Bob through the house and into the garage where Bob immediately begins complaining,

"Helen, what is it? You can't just keep showing up out of the blue like this." Helen sighs,

"I know but listen I need to-"

"Half the time you've just vanished and when you are home, I barely recognize you."

"Bob, please you need to listen to m-"

"Our daughter comes home and you're nowhere to be found. Wait...why are you wearing Eddie's clothes?"

"Bob."

"Oh my god, did he sleep with you too!? God, I can't believe this."

"BOB! SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Helen yelled at the top of her lungs making Bob freeze. Thankfully they were in the garage so nobody else could hear this, even though Helen just sighs with complete annoyance as she sits on a bench, "...I'm...I'm Edward." There is more silence from Bob, who just cracks an eyebrow before bursting into laughter,

"Okay...that was a good one, Hel. I gotta say I didn't expect that one." Helen in her frustration just glared at her husband,

"Just listen! I AM EDWARD!" She shapeshifts her body to look like a completely different woman. Bob backs up a bit,

"W-Wait, how did you do that?!?" Helen turns back to normal,

"I can stretch and morph any cell of my body, Bob. Figure it out." Bob holds his head, processing this,

"So wait...if you're Edward. Then...you have been cheating on me. Sofia. Veronica." Helen's cheeks turn red, "How could you do this to me?!?" Helen tears up as she tries to excuse,

"I couldn't control myself! When...when I become Edward, I lose myself and become someone else entirely. I'm lost in the freedom and the sex that I just can't keep myself in control. I thought I could stop it like before but now, I can barely spend a day without changing." Helen cried into legs which she hugged up to her chest, she is both terrified and sorry which even Bob in his betrayed state could see,

"Before...you mean, you were Edward before? How did this all happen?" Helen managed to compose herself then let out a heavy sigh,

"It was high school. I was still learning how to use my powers and I blossomed young. All the guys just kept wooing me and trying to hook up with me. I just wanted to focus on school and my powers. I was sick of the guys so I decided to try something new: I became one of them. I made myself transform fully into a guy and I blended in at school, nobody knew I was Helen. I got all my homework done and more."

"I just wanted to use my new body to take a break from Helen for a week but...the more I was a guy, the more I liked it. Soon enough, I started calling myself Edward Manhattan and I had a second life: I was a baseball star, I took my best friend Callie to the prom, I...lost my male virginity to her, I became the most popular kid in school. I loved being Edward...I nearly forgot that I used to be Helen. I started turning back into Helen and it felt nice to give Edward a break but then the black outs would happen."

"I'd wake up in Callie's bedroom or the locker room at school. Edward had become his own person and was continuing to lead his life, I lost control. I was losing who I was...so I blocked him. I destroyed his baseball career by putting steroid in his locker, I sabotaged his relationship with Callie, I made him a social outcast. In the end, I made him so miserable that I just locked him away in my subconscious and never shapeshifted again." Helen wiped away her drying tears, "And now he's back...and I've lost even more control than before." Bob is completely shocked by all this darkness about his wife but he loved her and he wanted to help her,

"So what brought him back?" Helen shook her head,

"Not exactly sure. He hinted at it was my frustration that unlocked him from my subconscious, like he was some kind of way to relieve myself. What I hate is that he was right...I was sick of my routine so much, I needed something to feel alive again. When he came back and he visited Sofia, I could feel it all, Bob. I was on fire. I couldn't get enough. I kept changing into him, I kept feeding him. We came to a truce but now he's going too far...Violet."

"Violet? Oh no..." Bob holds his head once more one he realizes the truth. Helen nods slowly,

"I was in his mind. He's already obsessed with her. It's just like Callie all over again. He wants her." Bob scoffs with disbelief,

"Well...I...can't you just lock him away again." Helen grabs her own hair,

"You don't understand, Bob. I can barely keep control just to talk to you. I...I'm in love with my own daughter. I want her just as badly as he does. You have to keep me and Edward away! If I...if I even look at her one more time, I don't think I could contain myself." Bob looks horrified, "I just want to pin her down and show her what a man I can be. Show her that Tony...Tony is nothing." Helen bites her own lip but she realizes what she's doing, "FUCK! Fuck, fuck, fuck!" Bob grabs Helen gently,

"Easy, easy. It's okay. We're going to figure this out." The couple hug, Helen sobs lightly into Bob's chest then rests her chin on his shoulder to glance at a mirror in the garage. Edward was nowhere to be seen which gave her great relief.

"Help me..." She pleaded.
