These are all parts of your braid
And there are many more
Some come and go
Weaving in and out
Some merely join the edges
And some that have been there since the beginning
Pass out of the braid forever
This braid is yours
It is your path
It is your values, your beliefs
It is what you have learned
What you have become
It will change
It always does
And it always will
At times it may seem messy
Not a work of art at all
And at other times
It will be most beautiful
There are times when it seems most thin
(Here you feel the most vulnerable)
And times when the thickness is impenetrable
(Here I feel the safest)
Surrounded by those who love me
And those whom I love
Let it be a long time
Before this time passes
But it will pass
And with its passing I will grow
The thread of the braid that is me is strong
Gather the threads of your life
And weave them to you
Make your braid thick and strong
Let the gathering not be a chore
Find pleasure in the gathering
