It wasn't always the end. There was a scrapyard in Wales that people brought all the locomotives and stuff and restored them

Yes and around in the 1980'S and 1990's Diesels had their turn the scrapyards

On Britain's mainlines we use electric powered trains and SOME diesels yes some have survived and rarely some steam locomotives. The steam locomotives are saved for special trains
