can't let children with swords run around freely. someone has to at least teach them how to use it properly. while Dusk does specialize in archery, he is also trained in conventional swordsmanship.
disclaimer. i'm not saying it's fine to let kids run around with weapons as long as they are trained. real kids should never lay their hands on actual weapons.

that and they're like 50% your size, have a smaller sword made of what looks like a weaker material and their sword is a much longer sword
