History:
Since the dawn of time, since the beginning, when nothing was and everything was not even a glimmer in the eyes of the gods, the universe has always been in balance. Light and Darkness, Life and Death, Good and Evil, Predator and Prey - each member of each pair has its role as a counter balance to its partner. When one begins to dominate, the other will be pressured to the extent that it will return with a vengeance, eventually dominating in itself. This dichotomy has and always will define the universe. The only problem is that there has to be someone to manage it.
Castor, along with his brother Pollux, is one of the best known kaiju from the league that were given responsibility for the various aspects of nature, known as the Terra Guards. As with all the rest, his position as weather control was determined by a series of deadly fighting tournaments among too many species to count. To understand his history in these tournaments, of course, it is imperative that their background be explained first. Throughout the planet's natural history, many matches were held over the eons, ensuring that only the strongest survived; if, in the event of a mass extinction, one guard was lost to circumstances, the surviving runners-up would compete against each other to take its place. The Grand Tournaments, the ones that determined the key aspects of biota itself, such as metabolism, development, reproduction, and evolution, have occured only three times in natural history. The first and least known to science was during the Paleozoic, following the Cambrian Explosion; the only known survivors being Kra'keann (the Grand Champion of the entire league and Terra Guard of Evolution) and Khondryk (who lost in the semifinals to an unidentified placoderm monster that was in turn bought down by Kra'keann in the final match), the outcome of over 90% of the matches is still unclear. More famous is the Mesozoic Tournament, where Castor and Pollux rose to power along with the numerous other Terra Guards known to science. And the third and final match was the Cenozoic Tournament, though that is not the primary concern when Terra's token pterosaur kaiju are discussed.
Ever since he hatched from his leathery eggshell and emerged into the outside world, the Winged Sun, for that was the sole moniker he was referred to at the time, was filled with ambition. For obvious reasons, weather control would have to be monitored by something with wings, and at the time, pterosaurs were not only the first but the only large animals to own the skies, as birds were only just beginning to evolve as piss-poor fliers at best. Not surprisingly, a great majority of the monsters to make it past the first-round weather matches were pterosaurs, and although a startling number of flying insects also entered, the presence of pterosaurs and their nightmarish ability to outmatch the bugs as fliers turned the first round competition into a slaughterfest of sorts. Of all the bugs to pass the first round, only one, a giant deadly wasp monster who for now should remain unnamed, ever made it to the Top 8.
Meanwhile, Castor himself was blazing through the matches with literal flying colors. Hatched on a seaside cliff pretty much MADE of solid multicolored mana, he was pretty much exposed to mana the moment he emerged from his eggshell, and though he was capable of flying on his own to look for food, he still gravitated towards the so-called Rainbow Ridge as a safe place to live and grow. An adventurer by nature, his nobility and chivalry allowed him to take on challenges that would make other monsters squirm uncomfortably, and once he was fully grown and ready to participate, it was no surprise that when Mana, the deity presiding over the tournament, told him of who he would be facing in his first match, he simply stated that he could be facing worse for a first-timer, and flew off to find the creature.
When Castor arrived at the match, he saw an entire swath of forest ablaze with flames, including all the living beings within. He thought it was a forest fire until he saw that even flying creatures, which could fly away from the fire in other circumstances, were being incinerated. The source turned out to be a nightmarishly literal DRAGONfly kaiju, complete with the flaming breath, covered in spikes and bristles that glew white-hot when agitated, which spewed flaming breath as its primary ranged attack, and it had no qualms about destroying whatever it wished with it. The insect was a perfect example of power being abused to hell and back, and Castor knew it; but he also knew that making an example of it the straightforward way was a bad idea, especially with regards to his flammable wings and fur. His best chance was to evade the opponent as much as he could, and sure enough, as soon as the dragonfly noticed him and tried to roast him alive, he managed to pull off an impressive barrel roll at top speed and graze her with his wingtip as he passed by. This pattern was established for several hours, coupled with torching more or less everything within a 5-mile radius of the starting point, until the whole field became a hazard zone for the winged reptile. No matter where he looked, literally everything was on fire and likely to cause a burn somewhere. The only thing that wasn't, of course, was Castor himself, and the dragonfly was about to change that. However, Castor was lighter, and more importantly, smarter than the dragonfly beast. Though the ashes thrown up were blotting out the sun, the pterosaur realized that the hot air currents rising from the ground could be a lifesaver. Just as the dragonfly loosed the last fireball, he vaulted himself straight up and let the explosion hit beneath him. The blast front propelled him into a thermal-powered upward spiral, trailing a brilliant stream of color all the while - his last moment of quick thinking had unlocked his mana ability, the control over the light and energy aspects that perpetuate the cycle of weather. Right now, though, the Rainbow Trail allowed him to cut straight through the ash-clouds and into the sky, where without any flaming trees in the way and no clouds to block the sun, the match swung in Castor's favor very quickly. The giant insect's habit of flame-spamming proved to be her undoing as, being less focused on her potential as a flyer than simply blowing shit up and/or setting it on fire, she had NO idea how to fight without a burning field to trap her foes in, and as soon as she followed him into the clear sky, she was quickly dismembered by a snicker-snack or a dozen of Castor's razor-like wing and crest edges, Razor Winds, and Rainbow Trails - one two, one two, and through, and through. Screeching in agony and terror, the last thing she saw was the finishing Dive-Bomb striking at her from above, sending her straight into the raging inferno below and reducing her own cut-up body to ashes. For such was the price of power being used unwisely.
This was more or less how numerous subsequent foes met their match. The Winged Sun was delicate and light, but he was also cunning and resourceful. He knew how to turn opponent's strategies and strengths into weaknesses and downfalls. Challengers were run ragged by his evasive action, unable to keep up with his incredible speed and ingenuity, and when they finally dropped their guard, they were then sliced up with quick, precision strokes. There was only one kaiju who figured this out, and it was lucky that this kaiju would come to see himself as a brother to Castor. Pollux had been taught since his flapling days by the nocturnal hunters he grew up with that in the right cirucmstances, any strategy could be turned on its ear. The creatures of the night knew how to beat others at their own game, and Pollux was no exception. He would have none of Castor's speed and strategy, and what he wanted most was to take on the competition one on one. His apparent reliance on brute force belied a talent for physical combat that no other pterosaur monster could hope to achieve. Other monsters thought they could bring down the Winged Moon through patience and cunning, but in the heat of battle, it was common sense that mattered more. Pollux knew that many monsters made errors in judgement that could potentially cost them their life. And he was quite sure that Castor was no exception to that rule.
Ever since they had entered the Top 8 and met each other for the first time, Castor and Pollux considered themselves as rivals to the bitter end. But "bitter" wasn't really the right term to describe their relationship as they came to know each other more during the semifinals. It was more of a "love-hate" feeling, as Pollux put it. Still, they both had a fight to win and it was with much fanfare that they were introduced to the grand finals, which would decide the winner. Both of them had their best strategies in mind, but surprisingly, both thought the same thing. Castor knew that Pollux's strategy had a flaw of some sort, while Pollux knew that Castor was bound to make a misjudgement eventually. But ultimately, these flaws effectively cancelled each other out and, after several days' worth of fighting, they literally dropped out of the sky in sheer exhaustion. Mana was taken aback of course at the outcome, but it was this match that caused both of them to realize that, in the final match, they had found their equals. The final match was declared a draw and, together, the two pterosaurs were crowned the winners of the Weather tournament and given the respective roles of the light of day and the darkness of night, and the weather implications that came with them.
Ever since the fateful match, the two pterosaurs have regarded each other as brothers, and shared equal participation in their roles. In battle they proved a formidable alliance, with Castor providing the brains and Pollux the brawn. United, they ruled the air until the end of the Cretaceous, when the extinction of their dinosaurian relatives and their own pterosaur clade forced them into hibernation until further notice. And as the Cenezoic Tournaments began in earnest, the birds, and the kaiju that were birthed from their ranks, took over the skies.
Personality and Fighting Style:
Castor is predominately an adventurer, who likes nothing better than the thrill of a good battle. Like other flying kaiju, he has a sort of flock instinct, and shows extreme loyalty to his friends and flock mates. He also lacks distinct aggression towards humans and prefers to scavenge or prey on sea life rather than fight. In fact, Castor actively protects humans and other sentient beings as well as other kaiju. He is also one of the few kaiju who is actively gregarious, treating his sparring partners as friends and companions.
Thanks to his spindly build and hollow bones, Castor is even more lightweight and frail than an average flying monster of the same size, which makes him faster at the expense of physical power. Therefore, the Winged Sun relies on sheer speed to survive. He is INSANELY fast, both on land and in the air, and the wind tunnels and sonic booms he creates when in motion carry incredible destructive power without having to cut in close. For this reason, Castor has learned to practically capitalize on his distinctive style of hit-and-run combat, launching attacks from a distance with gusts of wind and beams of energy.
Combat Information:
Battle Stats:
Health: 62
Mana: 78
Attack: 70
Defense: 54
Speed: 98
Agility: 43
TOTAL AVERAGE: 67.5
---------- Peck (Strike 1): Naturally, his beak is viciously sharp and dagger-like. His jaws are built to hold on to fish prey, but his short powerful neck allows him to administer fierce blows.
---------- Razor Wings(Strike 2): Each of Castor's wing fingers has a razor-sharp keratinized edge. This allows him to strafe his opponents with the leading edges of his wings, rather like elongated scimitars.
---------- Aerial Ace (Charge): Castor folds his wings and dives at the opponent, strafing it with his crests, wings, or tail blade.
---------- Rainbow Trail (Jump-Strike): Castor's mana gland is based on energy. When activated, his entire body releases multicolored, concentrated energy that radiates in a rainbow contrail behind him. Close contact can singe and even melt flesh of foes, but thanks to the buffer directly on the skin that the gland also produces, Castor always remains unharmed.
---------- Rainblow Dry (Combo 1): All three combos are a more powerful variant of the Swoop attack. In this case, Castor dives downward in a spiral while releasing the rainbow trail, creating a vortex of rainbow-colored energy and wind along the way. It both immobilizes and damages airborne foes, and if he can maintain a level loop, it can even be used for ground-based ones as well.
---------- Dive-Bomb (Combo 2): Swooping in a U-shaped path, Castor releases the energy downwards at the low-point of the path, carpet-bombing the selected area.
---------- Sonic Rainboom (Combo 3): This is the strongest version of the Rainbow Trail, and the hardest to pull off. Castor has to fly in a straight line and time the attack properly; aiming directly at the chosen target, he comes straight in, releasing the trail in the process - the extra propulsion provided by the energy and limited aerokinesis boost his speed immensely. It takes about half a minute for him to break the sound barrier, but once over that threshold he can fly even faster still with ease, all the while producing rainbow-charged sonic booms in his wake that quickly decimate his chosen target.

I know this is just a repost with a better format and the appropriate decals, but it was much better than the original version, so I decided that this would be the final version I would use for KK.
The Winged Sun, along with his partner, the Winged Moon, have had quite a history as far as I'm concerned. These two were not really based on any particular canonical kaiju, but rather on a theme I had set for the main players of my second attempt at a kaijuverse, then known as the Celestial Era. I called it that because the major players were based on the twelve signs of the Western Zodiac, with the two main kaiju being Castor and Pollux, a pair of light and dark twin pterosaurs. My love of these "winged reptiles" was why I wanted a pterosaur kaiju to begin with, but I didn't want the fact that they were prehistoric flying reptiles to detract from their symbolic meaning. This is why I gave them the yinyang motif, as evidenced by their color scheme (I intended to make the gray areas black, but that can probably be fixed in the official stats pic).
While I steadily decayed throughout last year, as I'm sure I've mentioned previously, the twins, like my other personal creations, ended up taking a backseat, and although they did tag along for the ride, they didn't play any major roles whatsoever, in contrast to the creations I made specifically for the group I was involved in at the time. Eventually, after I was left behind to pick up the pieces, it took me a short while to come to grips with the fact that I now had two ptero-kaiju who were understandably and justly pissed at me for not only not putting them to any good use, but also for failing to look after them during my gradual downward spiral.
~Inferno-Rodan 's Universal Clash Arena seemed like a good place to put them in, at least for the time being. In fact, Castor was in fact the first kaiju I ever used there, and though he lost, that match was one of the events that helped me regain control of my sanity, so in truth I really owe it to him. This is why he has a special place in my heart and soul, and why I decided to have him and his brother as the deuteragonists of Kaiju Klash.
I say deuteragonists, unfortunately, because the protagonist role was already taken up by Poultrasaurus, simply because his partner is the main character. Therefore, Castor can essentially be considered a Rodan expy. Okay, okay, I lied when I said that I didn't base the two of them on any canonical kaiju, because they are essentially animated love letters to Rodan who remains one of my favorite kaiju of all time. Castor's modern incarnation specifically is derived from a realistic (and admittedly, partially raptorized) drawing of Rodan I once made which, while created later than his original concept, did give me more than a few ideas about his appearance, character, and fighting style. The personalized facet of his personality I gave him for KK is that he is naturally gifted at strategy, which makes sense given his build. He is the fastest but also the physically weakest of the main cast, so he needs to be good at tactical thinking in order to hold his own against enemies that are stronger and bigger than he is. Essentially, he is the Smart Guy of the main team, which not only saves him from becoming just another Rodan carbon-copy, but also finally puts him to the good use which he sorely needed for so long. And for once, it's a use that works.

Very nice work on a reptillian, flying kaiju that doesn't scream "RODAN!". Great work.

Really like the equal/opposite dynamics you have going on with this guy and Pollux.

I quite like his new role in your verse, man, and him being a strategist is fitting indeed.
