Description Chapter 14 – Smoke and Mirrors

Death – Thanh’s POV

I was wrong about my premonition; we hadn’t been in ‘The Darkness’ but darkness had appeared around Aisha as she met the last few minutes of her life. I screamed in despair as I watched the light fade from her eyes, her dark blue eyes. I always thought her eyes were a pale blue but I must have been wrong. I had lost my sister! There would be no new life to the world now that life was dead, there would only be death for 1000 years and in the end it would be the end of the world.

My eyes sort out the black form in the hallway, my sister’s killer. In pure rage I stormed over to Kaia. Picking her up I dragged her by her arm into the closest room which just happened to be life’s bedroom. I threw kaia up against one of the walls. Her eyes slowly came into focus. I knew it was wrong you should never hit a girl but…

There was a definite sound as my fist made contact with her face. That was going to bruise. The whole time as I put punch after punch into her she never moved, just screamed in pain. One of her daggers fell to the ground; this was an opportunity to good to give up. I picked up the white dagger as she slid down the wall. “GET UP! I'm not going to let you get away with this. Kaia you are a murderer you have killed two people just today! GET YOUR ASS OFF THE FLOOR AND FACE ME.”

Her eyes full of pain her face covered in bruises she slowly got up. “Just kill me, in the end you will be the only one considered the murderer.” I charged at Kaia pinning her up against the wall. The white dagger I held resting over the same spot that Toril’s sword had only days ago. Kaia bent over in pain, for a second her blade digging into throat as she coughed up blood. Slowly she straighten up, “Finish what you started Thanh.”

A scream echoed around the room. I looked up at the door. Standing in the doorway was a wet Aisha, her light blue towel reflecting the colour of her eyes. “Aisha!” I let go of the blacked out Kaia and let her slip to the ground. “But…but… you’re dead!”

“Thanh, what are you talking about and what did you do to Kaia?!?”

“Kaia she killed you, she threw her dagger and killed you. I saw it with my very eyes; you died in my arms… SHE KILLED YOU!”

Life – Aisha’s POV

I watched as my brother fell to his knees, tears pouring down his face. “TASMINE!” Tasmine entered the room not long after. She stopped dead still just as she was about to walk in the room. “Yes I'm alive, someone is going to explain all this chaos to me later, but for now get my brother out of here and put him to bed. I'm going to get dressed and put kaia in my bed she shouldn’t have been walking around let alone having my brother on her case.”

As Tasmine exited I got dressed quickly and moved Kaia into my bed. There was too much risk involved in moving her too far. I could see multiple bruises start to appear all over her body. Why Thanh? Is it just because she killed me or is it that you couldn’t protect me? I left Kaia to rest after tending to the open cut on her throat.

When I entered the communal living area everyone looked at me like I was a ghost. “Ok what happened? Where is the body?” everyone pointed to the pile of dust that sat in a pool of blood. “What the hell? I need this explained!”

Yves stood up, “You might want to sit down for this.” I was told the whole story. It was told to me by about 4 different people. Most of it was a bit of a murmur as I listened intently to what Yves told me. Then I heard it in the background.

“What was that? What did she scream as she threw the dagger?” it was Leo that came forward.

“It sounded like she called Fajera.”

“If she did, I think we know why she killed what ever that thing was and why she killed Toril.” This time it was Yves that spoke.

“What do you mean?” I asked him.

“Well when Fajera first killed the gods she killed Kaia first. She also had a major grudge with you Aisha; you after all turned her down. Most years before this Fajera hasn’t appeared in this manner and never before has she attack this early into our rein. I can’t understand why this time it would be any different?”

“It’s because of Toril.” A small voice whispered from the hallway. Leaning heavily on the wall was Kaia. Almost everyone quickly went to help her and laid her down on the couch. “Toril was the reincarnate of Fajera. Except it wasn’t until she started to pester me, that Capricorn stated to take notice. Then it slipped, I called her Fajera. I ended up killing her. Then today I was resting when the real Fajera arrived. She seemed to drain some power from my white dagger and healed her neck wound, but she can’t heal the ones that are inflicted by my black dagger. I think it would be the same with all of the god weapons.

Anyway Fajera told me her plan in hopes to torture me. I don’t think she expected me to risk my life and kill her decoy. We can’t kill her when she takes on these decoy bodies. We must wait for her to take her real shape. The time was she wanted to kill life to stop us from leaving this city she wants to prevent us from doing something.”

“Thank you, Kaia. You saved my life today and you have saved Sheehanah, thank you.”

I watched as exhaustion finally caught up with her and she drifted to sleep. I told everyone to start preparing to leave this city now that Fajera had fully awakened. We would leave as soon as all the boundaries were reinforced and Kaia was healed.

Leo – Leonardo’s POV

There was so much talk of death and darkness I couldn’t take it. Once the conference was over with, I moved to my favourite place in the whole palace. The fighting room, I spent a lot of my time here. Normally this place was full of others that were strengthen themselves and tapping into new power. At the moment the place was desolate. It was so quite. There were random patches of blood where someone’s fighting had gotten out of hand and they were taken to Hina – Pisces.

I sat with my back against the wall when I smelt him, Reid! Straight away I was on my feet waiting for him to enter. For so long we had been at each others throats. I couldn’t remember what had started us off so long ago. Something about a chair I think. I don’t know but we always just seemed to clash. Then he entered a smirk plastered on his face. “I knew you’d be here. I’ve been itching for a fight, what do you think?”

“Of course, Reid I’d never back down from a challenge.” We started with a direct attack, both of us throwing punches and defending our bodies. Both of us were well trained, and while there were some close misses none of the blows landed. We both parted from each other for a few moments. Both of us bent over catching our breath back. “Have you scratched that itch yet? I could think of some other things that I could be doing right now.”

“I’ve only just started!” Reid came at me again, throwing punch after punch. I blocked him time and time again as I slowly inched towards the wall. This was bad he wasn’t backing off. Finally I found a gap and punched him full in the face. He screamed in pain and I jumped out of his grasps. I stopped to breathe as he turned around to face me. Reid’s eyes seemed dark and covered in a fog as he withdrew one of his guns. Shit! The sound of gun fire rang though the room. This was dangerous. Reid withdrew his second gun. Crap! In this state there was no way for me to defend myself let alone defeat him.

I could feel my body changing as I dodged bullet after bullet. It had been a while since I had done some practice in this form, maybe that’s what Reid wanted too. My hair became the mane of a lion, my nose started to become a muzzle and my teeth became the long sharp teeth of a lion. More of my body was changing this time compared to last. Last time it was just the teeth and mane but now it was a muzzle and I could feel my nails growing into claws. Maybe one day I would transform fully into a lion.

Reid was tiring, I was tiring. How much longer did he want to practice? The gun sounded, I thought I had dodged but a burning pain in my arm told me differently. A roar escaped my jaws. Turning I ran straight for Reid. I dodged another bullet and pounced on him nails digging into his shoulders. My breath was a rasp as I stared at his eye. This just wasn’t right. “Well that was a good fight don’t you think, Leo?” slowly I retreated from Reid. I watched as he put his guns away before I transformed back.

“Yeah it was a pretty good workout.”

“Well then I'm off Leo. Thanks.” He knows he hit me doesn’t he. Surely he had seen the blood. I tore off a bit of my jeans and wrapped it around the injury; I’d have to go see Hina.

Koyla’s POV

I sat alone in the communal living area with Kaia sleeping next to me. She was so beautiful, her face so peaceful. Of course her face was covered in bruises but I saw past that. I saw the beauty that lay within. Reids’ words had swamped my brain ever since I had heard them. What is it about you, why does she always want you? What did I do wrong? Why can I never be better than you? What had he meant by those words? I knew that he spoke of Kaia, but did that mean that what I had thought I had seen I hadn’t.

“What were you doing with Reid when you ran away? I saw you in his arms, but what does that mean? I thought at first it had meant that I had lost you. My fears I thought were confirmed when I returned. You and Reid were in your room. I'm sad to say but I had a peek in. Reid had his face right over yours, like he was about to kiss you. I couldn’t watch I left you there. Although that night Reid said something to me, even now I can’t understand it. I thought I had lost you. I still love you Kaia, I’d do anything for you but I just don’t understand this. I don’t understand what’s going on around me.”

I picked up her hand gently and held it lightly in my hands before I kissed it. If she had chosen Reid I wasn’t going to tempt her away I could handle defeat. Just as I was about to lay her hand back down she gripped my hand. “I don’t really have enough energy to waste on looking at you but don’t leave me Koyla. I heard everything you said. Yesterday you saw me waste the last of my power on slapping Reid twice if I remember correctly. Last night I was asleep I woke up around the same time you left and slapped Reid again. I spelt it out for him again that we were over. I still love you Koyla just as much as I did a month ago. I love you…” her voice became a light murmur as she slowly drifted back to sleep. I was content everything would be fine.

Pisces – Hina’s POV

I sat with the warming sun on my body. A lush forest surrounded me. A light breeze blew from the south and I was content. “Hina?!?” I woke with a start from my sweet illusion. My eyes took a while to focus but slowly they focused on Leo. I was back in the sunroom; sunlight filtered in and lit up the room in an unearthly glow.

“What is it you need Leo?”  He smiled at me, in pain, before removing a piece of denim from his arm. “So you have been fighting again have you? Why don’t you tell me about it while I get this out for you?”

His voice was so strong even through the pain that I was causing him. He told me all about the strangeness of Reid’s behaviour and his own transformation into the lion. “It was so strange, the way that Reid just walked in and asked me to fight, and then the fight itself was so strange. Then how it ended, there was no compassion shown from Reid as he walked away I know he knew he had hit me but it was like he didn’t care.”

Allowing Leo to talk had distracted him from the pain and I was done well before he finished talking. “Well mister muscles, you got hurt but I think you won that fight.” I smiled up at him and I watched his face turn some shades pink. Huh?

“I...I … better let you get back to um…” he started to stammer away.

“Oh thank you Leo. Watch out next time make sure you don’t get hurt.” I watched as the fully healed Leo left. What did I do? My illusions were never like that. Leo must have been nervous I don’t think I have ever treated or talked to him on a personal level before. Oh well as long as he doesn’t harm himself too much.

I sat still and breathed lightly. My mind concentrated on the rhythm of my breathing. I found myself back in the forest. “Lady Hina. Lady Hina. We have found you at last. We have been looking for you all day.”

“What is it good soldier?”

“There is a war on the way, you must return home.” I rose off the damp grass and moved towards my grey horse.

“Then let us be gone.” The little grey mare dutifully followed the soldier’s bay. We arrived back at the fortress in little to no time. A servant came to take my horse and I entered the main building. Servants all bowed to me as I made my way though the building. Finally I came to the great hall that could easily fit 500 people. What more would you expect from the royal palace. My father sat at the throne, my mother beside him as was my elder brother. I bowed to the three other members of my family, before I made my way up to my room.

After flight and flight of stairs I finally reached the royal living quarters. I changed from my riding clothes into a beautiful pink dress, and then made my way back down to the grate hall. All of the war bands were talking about the coming war and my father was in an in-depth conversation with my brother and other war leaders. I sat down next to my mother. “I don’t think we can win this war. We don’t have enough food in store to with stand a siege and only half of our allies have come to our summons.”

“I’m sure everything will be fine mother.” And I was right by the next day the threat of war had passed. In celebration mother was holding a masquerade ball that night. I was to spend the day at the dressmakers getting a new dress made for the occasion. This dress was a turquoise blue and on it was a scene from a pond with three gold fish. This was very like the dress I wore when I was in the world of Sheehanah. Except it was a different style. It was odd for my illusions to be so close to the truth. My mask for the ball was of two gold fish that were kissing over the bridge of my nose.

The ball was spectacular. There were so many men there, and I danced with nearly all of them. As the night wore on I kept seeing an individual with a lion mask on. His long hair was combed back neatly and he looked extremely handsome. I kept trying to get his attention so that he would ask me to dance. I wanted to know more about him. Finally he did come and ask me to dance. I was spell bound by him. We spent the rest of the night together. As the sun was slowly approaching the horizon we removed our masks. “Hina!”

“Leo!” I woke with a start. Everything was a bluish black it must be night again. It was so odd for an illusion to take on something so close to this life. Leo, why was he there in my dream maybe it was just that he was the last person that I had treated, but even as I made that decision I knew in my heart that I was wrong. I felt around for the chair as I was about to get up but the chair wasn’t there. “Hello?” I called out. My voice just seemed to echo around me. Your voice is like a ripple in the water isn’t it. Who…who are you? Why are you in my head?  I am Pisces and I am here to tell you something very special you need to open your eyes though. You are so close to mastering the water element.

Slowly I opened my eyes and looked around me. There in the bluish darkness was a mermaid. I was in water. I was swimming with her. I was swimming with the spirit Kuri. This time I really woke up. What did all that mean?
