In 2021, OnyxKing mentioned that his most favorite modern video is Mario works at IHOP, and I can honestly believe why. This video is indeed a very fun watch.
The video starts off nicely when we're introduced to an audio from an IHOP commercial repurposed fir the actually creative intro that has Mario watching a commercial. And how we get our plot smoothly and effortlessly in the video by simply showing Mario's reaction to his situation.
The IHOP scenes are also very fun to watch. The characters Onyx used for the scenes are perfectly suited for the scenarios. To fans of Persona and RWBY know that Goro Akechi and Nora Valkyrie love pancakes, so it's more than just funny random characters being put in the situation.
As for the gags, I can say the video makes the most of what there are. The antics are minimal yet very interesting to watch. Mario failing to cook his pancakes is a fun example of how the joke progresses itself with the conclusion that heads on to a conflict.
The conflict of the episode, where IHOP has to face against Mr. Waffles' Waffle House, which Luigi is a part of. I like how the two companies' attempt to sabotage each other go in the montage, and the kickstarter to that montage is actually a very funny moment as Mario's poisoning of the waffles result in panic-inducing food-poisoning.
The climax, for what it is, is a fun battle between bands that ultimate end up with Mario and Luigi understandably yet humorously ditching their restaurants for french toasts instead.
All in all, I think the reason why I do enjoy the video is because it doesn't try to cash in something popular or start something big. The video is just a funny video with its own original, if not just creative, idea that actually commits itself to what it wants to be. I can safely say that by just coming up with something that's funny on its own, I genuinely do enjoy the video on its own merits. And I do think it's better to try coming up with scenarios that are your own from time to time than trying to make something big.
