That's probably because the only other cat with them was Ravenpaw, I believe they were on a patrol to make sure Riverclan didn't try to take Sunningrocks.
They were a good distance away from Thunderclan camp that cats wouldn't have seen Tigerclaw kill Redtail.
So the only other witness was Ravenpaw, but he couldn't tell Bluestar because he was afraid that Tigerclaw would kill him, the only cats he told were Fire(paw/heart) and Grey(paw/stripe). Later in the books, Fire told Bluestar but she didn't believe him and I believe she punished him for making "false accusations".
Later Bluestar realized he was correct.

Okay, that secures ThunderClan, but what about RiverClan? Unless they were hidden or something I doubt it would have happened that way

Okay, so I read the wiki (because I dont have the book with me), and I was wrong about some parts
Tigerclaw, Redtail, Ravenpaw, and some other cats were on a patrol, and encountered Riverclan cats on Sunningrocks, which at the time was Thunderclan's Territory. Riverclan would've been able to see the battle on Sunningrocks because its out in the open. However, the Riverclan patrol retreated after being defeated, so the Thunderclan patrol went back to camp. The wiki says that during the patrol's travel back to camp, Ravenpaw rushed to the camp, ahead of everyone, warning them about what happened to Redtail. This means that somewhere between Sunningrocks and the camp (which is a massive forest), Tigerclaw killed Redtail. He must've sent the rest of the patrol (which it seems was only Ravenpaw and Mousefur) ahead to warn Thunderclan about Redtails death, because Tigerclaw came into the camp carrying Redtails' dead body a little later than the rest of the patrol. I believe that after Redtail was murdered, that Tigerclaw threatened to harm Ravenpaw if Ravenpaw told the clan about how Redtail was really killed.
So basically, Tigerclaw sent the patrol ahead to warn Thunderclan, so that he could kill Redtail within the woods, where no one would see him. I bet that if Tigerclaw knew that someone could see him, he wouldn't have done it.
