Description
This was quite the project. Took around 6 months from start to finish. I based the design on 15th century samurai armours, but no particular clan or house. I wanted to be able to showcase my organic, hard surface modelling skills as well as my experience with clothing and fabrics. Sculpted the whole samurai in Zbrush. I didn't pay much attention to the hair as I knew I wouldn't be able to make a great looking hair within the time limit. I made the character first, and sculpted the shoulder pads and the katana separately. I learned quite a lot throughout this project. Having to overcome stuff like "how I could most efficiently sculpt this part" or "how to retopo that part" made me learn a lot about the software and the pipeline. I originally made two texture sets for the skin and everything else but since I sculpted the katana and the shoulder pads separately I ended up making separate UV sets for those as well. I rigged with Mixamo to quickly pose it however it couldn't really cope with the trousers the right way. Neither could it compute the shoulder pads so I didn't even try the katana. I added those elements later. I displayed it in Marmoset, however I'm not the most satisfied with the presentation so I want to try to show it in a different way later. I am working on that project at the moment. All in all a very long but fun project.
