Historically rings were to be dipped in boiling hot wax then dipped in gold or other metal (made of sea weed ash soap) so they didn’t collapse in on themselves before more advanced metals were created with technological advancement or just the corruption of the earth when elements merged (think radioactive waste leaking from power plants).
